Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Canon printers are usually very quick, but the Pro9500 proved the slowest in the group, at least in high-quality print mode. A3+ borderless prints took 8m 22s to produce, but at maximum quality settings, speed proved similar to the Epson A3+ printers on test, at 11m 15s. Our tests using Canon's glossy papers, including Photo Paper Pro Platinum and Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, were comparatively disappointing. Colours took on a faded appearance and contrast was poor, giving a slightly insipid look to prints. It's nowhere near a match for Canon's Pro9000 Mark II for glossy output.

On balance I will choose the Epson Photo Stylus R3000, despite some concerns about long term reliability. This is on the basis of the exceptional Black & White print quality possible with the Epson printer, the added benefit of a roll print facility and the Ethernet connection capability. For anyone looking for a cheaper A3+ printer, then the Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mk 2 would also make a very good choice, although the lack of ethernet, and roll print could put some off.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

This is a well established, solid and reliable printer capable of producing prints of a very high quality which I would have no hesitation in exhibiting for sale in my usual outlets. A number of my friends who are full time professional photographers use this as their primary printer and confirm this opinion. It is simple to use and I never once had a feeling that it may give me a problem. The lack of Ethernet connection is, for me, the only reason I would hesitate to consider this as a future replacement for my existing HP B9180.

The Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II, Canon's improved version of its top of the line desktop photo printer is nearly identical to the original, but with somewhat better speed.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Delivering fade-resistant prints in color or black and white, with an extended black and white tonal range from three black inks and a wide color gamut for pigments with 10 inks, the Pro9500 Mark II delivered the best pigment printing experience we've had.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

While the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II is as good as it gets for photo printing at home with its excellent quality, it can be a pricey proposition. The printer itself is S$1299 with each ink cartridge at S$24.90 and it runs 10 different inks. Like other inkjet printers, it won't work with even just one cartridge missing, so you'll have to keep all 10 freshly stocked. But in the end, you do get what you pay for with top quality prints.

All in all, we still like the Pro9500 a lot. While we're splitting hairs at this point, it may offer the best overall image quality – the closest thing to that photo-lab print experience – that you can get in a printer that's reasonably within the budget of the serious enthusiast. Is this distinction, plus the Pixma's other subtle advantages, enough to put it at the top of the heap among photo inkjets? For $200 less, I'd say yes. As it stands, you (and your wallet) will have to decided for yourself.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Canon Pixma Pro9500 Mark II is an excellent printer that photographers capturing RAW images will prefer over the HP B9180 due to the quality of its 16-bit output. Illustrators and designers working in 8-bit may prefer the HP's Photosmart Pro B9180 ’s price tag – which is £140 lower – and built-in calibrator and network connectivity.
