Intel Core i3-530 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Not quite the bargain we'd been hoping for, but a decent choice for a powerful media centre PC.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

A dual core chip in 2010 may seem a little underwhelming but at its £90 price point the Core i3 530 offers unparalleled performance.

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

Intel's Core i3-530 CPU isn't going to be ideal for everyone. Overall, it doesn't offer the best performance at this price, not least because it's equipped with only two processing cores (though Hyper-Threading does help with that), but it generally keeps pace with the competition. Its graphics capabilities will likely prove limiting, however, to anyone who wants only moderate 3D gaming potential as part of even a budget setup.

www.pcper.com‘s review Edit

Overall I have to say that I was much more impressed with the Core i3-530 processor than I expected to be especially considering the rather poor outlook it appears to have when looking at just the raw benchmark scores. While our performance / watt metric was a bit of a letdown for the Core i3-530, when we look at performance per dollar it is a sweep!

phoronix‘s review Edit

Intel's Core i3 530 is an interesting, low to mid-range processor. In our Core i3 Linux benchmarks we found this processor to perform very well especially in the heavily SMP-based areas where it was able to shine and run quite well. In other areas, the Core i3 530 was running neck-and-neck with the Core 2 Duo E8400 processor that is based on Intel's Wolfdale from 2008.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

To push the need for a better processor, it is necessary to go beyond the capabilities of a single GPU and into the realm of CrossFire or SLI. When cost is of the utmost concern, this isn't particularly likely. So, our tests prove that a low-cost CPU will do the job just as well as a high-priced part.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

The Core i3-530 overclocked to 4.2 GHz delivers the highest power efficiency, expressed in performance per watt-hour. The score is a synthetic number resulting from the division of our performance results with the power consumption readings. Unfortunately, the 2.93 GHz stock speed delivers the worst power efficiency, so it makes a lot of sense to overclock the CPU at least a bit.

computershopper‘s review Edit

The Core i3-530 can't keep up with AMD's similarly priced, quad-core Athlon II X4 635, but it does offer good performance and an opportunity to upgrade to Intel's faster chips down the road.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

The Clarkdale Core i5 and Core i3 CPUs are worthy successors to the Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo and if you're looking to buy a new Intel system, there's really no way you ought to be looking at Core 2 chips any more, especially as the i3-530 expected to come in at under £100, while offering Q6600 levels of performance. In fact, paired with a good, cheap overclocking motherboard, we can see the i3-530 being a great budget buy. At 3.5GHz, it's quick and of course, it has excellent power consumption figures.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

If you're buying a P55 board then go get the i5-750 for £150 if you can afford it because it's always faster - sometimes considerably so: it's still the new Q6600. Also remember the i3s don't fend well in P55 boards, so if the budget doesn't allow the i5-750 though, grab a capable H55 board and i3-530: this is our recommended budget CPU right now and it's great fun to overclock, too.
