SHARP AQUOS LC-46LE821E Pro Reviews

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

As it stands right now, the LC46LE821E is another Sharp display which combines some strong points with a few negatives. Sadly, the overall package is just not hugely compelling — especially given the existence of cheaper, superior alternatives.

If Quad Pixel technology had been developed by the likes of Sony, Samsung or Panasonic, you can bet your bottom dollar they’d be screaming about it at the top of their marketing lungs from the top of the nearest mountain. Sadly, Sharp doesn’t seem to currently lavish anywhere near as much promotional muscle on its new technology as it deserves. But do yourself a favour. If you don’t have a problem with spending £1,650 on a TV these days that doesn’t have 3D technology, book yourself an audition with the 46LE821E. You won’t be disappointed.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Sure, the 46LE821E isn't perfect. And yes, it's painfully expensive versus most of the 46in flat TVs that come our way these days. But by thinking outside of the (three-dimensional) box, Sharp has come up with one of those rare bits of new TV technology that's actually good enough to make you rethink your expectations of flat TV picture quality.

Sharp’s Quad Pixel technology is very effective, but this new found vibrancy doesn’t come cheaply. At over £1,600, the LC-46LE821E is incredibly expensive for a 46in TV without 3D capabilities. As it stands, we prefer the Panasonic Viera TX-P42G20B. It might not have the extra sub-pixel, but produces stunning colours, deep blacks and has incredibly smooth movement. With a lower price, Freeview HD and Freesat HD tuners it's the better buy.

Is extra yellow as good as an extra dimension? Perhaps not, but that doesn’t stop the Quattron being a fine TV

£2000 is quite steep for a 46in screen these days, so you are paying a big premium for those extra yellow pixels. As a result, the 46LE821E will probably appeal mainly to Sky HD subscribers or Blu-ray buffs who will appreciate the richness that the 46LE821E brings to HD content.

AVForums‘s review Edit

Overall the LC-46LE821 has a lot going for it including excellent build quality, a reference Greyscale and very good video processing. It's just a shame that these merits have been overshadowed by marketing imperatives. The reality is, that this is an expensive display and there are others available, with similar screen sizes, and reference Greyscale and accurate colours, that cost a third of the price.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Overall the Sharp Aquos Quattron LC-46LE821E is a good all round performer once you wrestle control of the settings from the defaults. The array of connections should suit most users, but for a high-end set, with a price of £2000 you expect a lot, and perhaps a little more than you get.
