SHARP AQUOS LC-40CT2E Pro Reviews

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

LED has taken over from LCD, right? With LED panels still commanding a premium, step forward this 40-inch LCD TV that makes no excuses for its standard spec. And how! Great contrast, fine detail and spot-on colours just go to show how good the budget end of the TV market is becoming. There are minuses, most notably with that Freeview HD interface, weak audio, and noticeable judder, but if you can find the LC40CT2E for around £650, you've got yourself a bargain.

The Sharp LC40CT is very cheap, but the poor image quality means that it's not worth buying.

AVForums‘s review Edit

It truly is the first time in a long while that I have been utterly exasperated at the resulting image quality of an HDTV. Every model we have looked at so far in 2010 has had at least very basic calibration controls and one preset where an attempt at an accurate colour gamut has been made. After all, if you want to watch content as it should be seen that is the main aim of any TV. Just not this Sharp; which has a poorly performing panel in terms of colour gamut and no adjustment control available at all. And it is the skewed gamma that kills the image dynamics. Very poor. It may be cheap but it is also one to avoid if you value image quality that is accurate and natural.

If we could judge the 40CT2E on its HD performance alone, it would probably have bagged an eight for pictures, and maybe even a TrustedReviews Recommended badge once its price had been taken into account. But even with the built-in Freeview HD tuner, there’s a good chance that the 40CT2E’s target audience will still end up watching quite a bit of standard def. So it’s a shame its standard def efforts fall short of those delivered by many rival sets these days.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Find the LC-40CT2E for a decent price and it makes a lot of sense; some great Freeview HD pictures match contrast-heavy and generally filmic Blu-ray images. It's not all good - standard definition channels on Freeview are disappointing and so is both sound and the Freeview HD tuner's user interface - but the LC-40CT2E is worth considering if you're hooked on high-def.
