The ASUS WL-700gE isn't just another wireless router to base your home network on. It is a multifunctional device with media, storage and file sharing capabilities. With the WL-700gE, you don't need a separate NAS or media server and BitTorrent junkies can finally let their PCs rest. Its wireless throughput performance is worth noting too, as it is one of the better 802.11b/g routers we've seen. Paired with another BroadRange capable device and you've got yourself some serious range with great signal strength.

For sheer abundance of features, the ASUS WL-700gE is in a league of its own. The inclusion of an embedded hard drive allows for so much flexibility, as we have already seen in hard drive-based media players.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit Like Unlike

It's an interesting early entry into the network convergence field for Asus, but with cable broadband being small fry compared to ADSL in the UK, it lacks broad appeal. However, if you're a big downloader and have the right networking kit, £160 is a price that's well worth paying.

The Asus WL-700gE router features an integrated hard drive and loads of media-sharing features. If you find yourself constantly downloading files from the Internet, it's worth the high cost and the complex setup routine.

For the sheer number of features the WL-700gE scores highly as packs an awful lot in to its modest dimensions and offers them at a reasonable price. The majority of these worked well during testing although the Download Master and web cam functions are poorly implemented and the user documentation could be more helpful.
