Samsung Fascinate Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

As far as Android-based phones go, Samsung has set itself apart from much of its competition with their Galaxy S phones, and the Fascinate is a prime example of that. It has everything an Android user could ever want: a great screen, quick and easy-to-use UI, and a wonderful design inside and out. Verizon customers ready to upgrade need not look farther than the Fascinate. Phones like this make Android great.

The Samsung Mesmerize is a strong contender in a mobile market currently flooded with Android phones. With a stunning touchscreen, a fast and responsive user interface, and great overall call quality, the Mesmerize is poised to be the new pack leader of the Galaxy S series. U.S. Cellular stores and support are limited to certain areas, but I would greatly recommend picking up this phone if you are within the carrier's network of coverage.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

When they're both priced at $200 with a contract, there is no arguing that the Samsung Continuum is the clear choice winner for the time being, that is, in case you are not in love with the Samsung Fascinate's 4” beauty.

Verizon already has a strong portfolio of Android devices, so where does the Fascinate stand? If you're looking for something a little more lightweight and slimmer, the Fascinate's design is more appealing than that of the Motorola Droid, Droid 2, and Droid X. Additionally, if this is your first smartphone, the Fascinate's TouchWiz user interface is pretty easy to navigate. Business users or Android enthusiasts might be more inclined to go with Motorola's offerings or with the HTC Droid Incredible, since they offer a more straightforward Android experience.

Engadget‘s review Edit

The design of the phone is simple enough to be inoffensive, but not daring or notable in any real way. In our hands, 4-inches feels like the perfect size for this type of phone; the device feels considerably smaller than something like the Evo, but is more comfortable to type on than the Incredible or iPhone. The general size and thickness will keep it competitive (the phone is nearly as thin as the iPhone 4), though in a sea of like-minded devices, the Fascinate could easily be overlooked.

Although in a side by side comparison the screen on the Fascinate may be better, the screens on Verizon’s other Droid phones are no slouches, you won’t feel like you missed something if you choose one of them. That means that other features will come into play when you purchase a smart phone. For instance, we liked the HTC overlay on the Droid Incredible better. We liked the size of the screen on the Droid X better, and we liked the keyboard on the Droid 2.

phonedog‘s review Edit

Like the other Galaxy S devices, the Fascinate is a feature-packed, high-end device that happens to be positioned in the same price bracket as Verizon's DROID lineup. Samsung's TouchWiz user interface is a nice option for those venturing into the Android realm for the first time, and the colorful menus should appeal to those that want an iPhone-like device on Verizon. That said, out of all of the Galaxy S devices, the Fascinate is the least exciting and has the highest number of issues out of the box. The value proposition comes into play as well. Sprint, for example, offers visual voicemail and Sprint Navigation (in addition to Google Maps) free of charge. Purchase both of these on Verizon's Fascinate, and you're spending an extra $11.99 per month.

When I initially powered up the Samsung Fascinate, I expected that this would be very similar to its sister models, T-Mobile's Vibrant and AT&T's Captivate. I was mistaken. The deck of Verizon applications, the impressive battery life, and lack of issues with heat leads me to believe that Verizon might have done best to wait so long to bring their variant to market.

Samsung’s Galaxy S Fascinate holds its own alongside the popular Droid X, leaving room for both superphones on the nation’s largest wireless carrier.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

When it comes right down to it, there’s a lot we like about the Samsung Fascinate, mainly its styling and hardware, such as the impressive Super AMOLED screen and 1GHz Hummingbird processor. But at the same time we feel that the software, mainly the TouchWiz UI, is holding the device back. While we can appreciate what Samsung attempted to do with the UI, it in turn makes the Fascinate feel less like an Android phone, and with the addition of the Bing search, one might mistake the device for a Windows Mobile phone upon first glance. At this point, we can only hope that the Android 2.2 update will soon give the Fascinate that “Google feel” that people expect when using an Android device, because it’s lacking that feeling right now.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

With Android 2.2 – which Samsung claims is due later in 2010 – the Verizon Fascinate will get even faster, but we don’t feel the need to hold off until the new ROM is released. This is one of the best Android smartphones we’ve tested, and certainly the best of the US Galaxy S family (assuming you don’t want to use your phone outside of North America). Samsung and Verizon have saved the best until last, then, and in doing so created a strong alternative to Apple’s iPhone 4.

Sized in between the Motorola Droid X and HTC Droid Incredible, the Samsung Fascinate will feel just right for many Verizon smartphone shoppers.
