MSI Wind U115 Hybrid Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

The Wind U115 tries to provide the best of both worlds by having Windows XP on the SSD, leaving you plenty of space for documents and large media files on the hard disk. The trouble is, it's just too expensive.

reghardware‘s review Edit

There's no denying that the U115 offers extraordinarily long battery life and its performance scores are up there with some of the best SCCs we've seen. The combination of both SSD and HDD in one unit is a clever trick, so you can use each storage medium for what it does best. The big problem with the U115, though, is its price...

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

For travellers — or anyone who wants to work for long periods of time away from a power outlet — the MSI Wind U115 is perfect. Its battery life is the longest we've seen in an Intel Atom-based netbook, lasting well over five hours. We also like the inclusion of an SSD drive, but we wish it had a larger storage capacity.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

With its unique storage and exceptional mobility, the Wind U115 Hybrid is one of the best netbooks around. Its high-price is off-putting though, so carefully consider your needs and budget.

Hybrid storage extends battery life, but the rest of the package is weak

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

On paper, MSI claimed the battery life was 12 hours of use whilst in Eco mode, where the U115 relies solely on the SSD. In reality, we managed to get a good 8 hours of life out of the latest Wind netbook, with Wi-Fi on and many applications running at once. As a direct comparison, battery life with the SSD, hard drive and Wi-Fi all powered on lasted around the 6 hour mark. All of which was not as good as MSI claims, but it’s still a worthy operational duration for a computer of this nature.

netbooked.net‘s review Edit

The MSI Wind U115 remains mostly unchanged on the surface, but the internals have undergone an extensive change and thanks to the hybrid storage in combination with the Poulsbo chipset (Atom Z530 processor and Intel GMA500 graphics), the U115 will get roughly 10 hours of battery life, the best battery life I’ve seen or heard of on a netbook, with a 6-cell battery. Expect more on the 9-cell battery. Combine that with a virtually no noise and heat, an excellent keyboard, bright matte display and you’ve got yourself a winner, if you don’t mind the expensive price tag.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

The Wind U115 Luxury is a netbook alternative from MSI, which attracts attention especially due to its built-in components and a promised long-life battery. An Intel Atom Z530 CPU, an Intel Poulsbo chip set with a GMA500 graphic chip set and a built-in SSD memory unit in addition to the hard disk is supposed to bridle the energy requirement especially effectively in mobile mode.

Though its stellar battery life will appeal to road warriors, the pricey, bulky MSI Wind U115 Hybrid suffers from a few debilitating flaws that are hard to overlook.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

MSI should be praised for the idea of a hybrid netbook and the battery life results demonstrate that this part of the U115 is a success. However, despite a decent feature set, £450 is far too much to ask for an otherwise uninspiring netbook.
