Samsung LE40A656 Pro Reviews

hdtvtest‘s review Edit

So, in LE40A656, has Samsung finally come up with a candidate that can mount a serious challenge to Sony Bravias at the top of the LCD hill? We believe so. Make no mistake, the Sony Bravias still hold the edge in colour balance and gaming response. And when present, their 100Hz MCFI technology is slightly more accomplished than Samsung's. But with standard-definition video processing, connectivity and most importantly price stacked firmly in Samsung's favour, the future looks extremely rosy for the LE40A656 indeed.

Things start very well for this Samsung. The ‘rose black’ translucent bezel is subtle and extremely attractive. Samsung describes this as the ‘touch of colour’ series, but ‘touch of class’ would be just as fitting. Calibration of the ‘656 is fairly interesting, as the screen actually gains a purple tint if you lower the brightness or contrast settings too far. Avoid this though, and turn the backlight down a little, and the Samsung’s picture is very nice indeed.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

One of LCD's biggest failings tends to be with motion handling and it's here that the 100Hz processing really proved its worth. Made to work extremely hard with sport, it went about its business impeccably, massively reducing the usual blurring effect as well as making movement more fluid. The motion handling technology on the Samsung LE40A656 excelled when playing 1080p/24fps Blu-ray movies.
