The DMR-BS850 is certainly a pretty impressive piece of kit, as you’d hope from the first Blu-ray recorder to go on sale. Like its DVD-recording sibling, however, it doesn’t have the polished interface that you’d expect from a high-end satellite DVR, and appears more enticing to HD camcorder owners than telly addicts.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The level of technological innovation offered by the DMR-BS850 made it the most eagerly anticipated product of the year, and thankfully it doesn’t disappoint. The combination of twin Freesat tuners, Blu-ray recording, a huge hard-disk, wide multimedia support and sensational Blu-ray playback make it an irresistible proposition. Yes it’s expensive but new technology always is - if you have the cash and don’t fancy lining Murdoch’s pockets then it’s definitely worth every penny.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Overall I'd rate the BS850 as an amazing bit of kit. Panasonic has launched a number of BD recorders globally (in Japan, France, and Australia, ), but none are an exact match of this model. It's unique and more than a little brilliant.
