The Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T. 9 is the most expensive gaming mouse we know of, but its vast customizability, unique features, and strong performance make it a worthwhile expense for demanding PC gamers.

The vastness of the RAT 9’s offering is stunning. It really is a gaming mouse made to accommodate everyone. In my opinion, it succeeds in doing so, but some of the faults really set the RAT 9 back. Hanging on studded surfaces for slow movements is a serious issue. Constantly changing the battery is an inconvenience users may remember years down the road more than the actual mouse itself. But for now, you can game precisely and enjoyably, and of course comfortably.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

There's no new innovation here; no plug and play mechanic, which both the wireless Mamba and Microsoft's Sidewinder X8 use to good effect. So you're stuck with a dual battery setup and having to switch batteries when power levels go south. The wired version is pricey enough and you really don't get enough on top of that version to justify the extra £50 price premium MadCatz is putting on this wireless mouse.

benchmarkreviews‘s review Edit

Fortunately, the R.A.T. 9 suffered from none of the problems of the R.A.T. 7, and it's become my "pointing device of choice" for most day-to-day work, and certainly for gaming! The value of the Cyborg RAT 9 mouse is difficult to gauge, since it's pre-release price is $99.99 at NewEgg. Aside from specialized commercial mice designed for sound studio or CAD/CAM usage, this is the most expensive mouse I know of.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

It’s certainly an original piece of work, and for a power user, it could be amazing, as long as you don’t mind switching out the battery every day. And it certainly looks cool, or if not cool, then at least interesting. But I don’t think it’s going to offer superior performance in any way over a Mamba or Logitech MX Revolution. It’s no slouch, either, it just doesn’t excel in anything except design.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Despite its customizable hardware, the Rat 9 won't fit everyone. It wouldn't fit our hand perfectly, though it was fairly comfortable. It won't fit pro gamers who scoff at wireless-only mice for fear of interference at LAN events, even when confronted with its superb responsiveness. And at $130, it may not fit the budgets of those who don't play games for a living. Still, aside from the occasional nitpick, we couldn't find a thing wrong with this sleek transforming mouse. That's not something we get to say often. At least one Engadget editor is putting this on his Christmas wishlist right now.
