Razer Lycosa Pro Reviews

bjorn3d‘s review Edit

Despite our initial misgivings about a keyboard making a difference in game play, the Lycosa proved us wrong. The dimmed lighting combined with the back lit keys on the Lycosa make it a gaming tool worth having just for that feature. Then the ability to program it for 10 different setups, using the included software, which was as easy as clicking the on screen key and typing the macro and hitting save, is really handy for people that play more than one game at a time.

I admit that before this review I wasn't really a big fan of Razer products. When I saw the box though I think that changed. After putting this keyboard through its paces I doubt seriously I'll use another brand. Between its high class looks, programmability, and downright ownage, this keyboard will leave you hooked. When you add the extra features this thing has, it makes it a worthy ally for your gaming needs. The USB port and audio jacks also make this keyboard stand out exceptionally well apart from others. I think those two innovative ideas are what make Razer stand out from the rest of the crowd. On top of all that, you have the profile switching and media keys, which make this keyboard a must have product. The gaming mode keeps annoying Windows features from popping up in the heat of the battle. That is a big plus. The 1000MHz polling and 1ms response are definitely there and you will notice a big difference when switching from your old keyboard. Coupled with the backlighting and WASD lighting, you'll be fragging all night long, and doing it accurately as well. I think all this outweighs the downfall of having only a few media players supported for the media touch keys. The Lycosa Mirror most definitely offers an exceptional gaming and typing experience.

As a gaming keyboard, the Lycosa Mirror Special Edition Gaming Keyboard is a fine choice for dedicated PC gamers looking to play on through the night. A bevy of options and a beautiful yet smudgy finish, the Lycosa is the type of keyboard that you bring out for special gaming events to impress the teenagers. The price point may be a bit high for some but the Lycosa was truly designed with gamers in mind.

I really wanted to like the Razer Lycosa, for its svelte looks, blue backlighting, and for daring to eschew any dedicated gaming keys. And after a while I did, as the smaller sibling to the Tarantula it overcame initial dislike to offer up an average typing experience and an above average gaming one. But the experience is marred by several flaws, meaning that unless you feel a particular affinity for the rubberised, laptop-like keys or the ability to macro-program any key, there are better options out there for the money.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Razer's Lycosa gaming keyboard has a lot of promise, and it mostly delivers, thanks to its solid feel, smooth typing, and powerful macro capabilities. We wish Razer had paid more attention to the LED lighting, but for strong touch-typing gamers, we think you'll like the Lycosa once you put your hands on it.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Lycosa is a simple, solid and stylish keyboard, but if you're a serious gamer, who's into macros and extra functionality then the less-stylish, but feature-packed G15 is probably going to be your weapon of choice.

If a keyboard is just another input device to you, the Razer Lycosa might be a little rich for your blood. After all, if a keyboard lets you type, that’s all you need – right? If you think along those lines, chances are you’re not a gamer. Gamers won’t mind the higher price tag for a non-wireless keyboard when you get a high polling rate, media control features, USB hub, and sexy, backlit keys.
