LACIE LaCinema Black MAX Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Lacie's LaCinema Black MAX is a big improvement over previous devices with better format support, media control and versatility. Despite the overly basic interface and remote control, performance is pretty good and, with a strong turnout from the DVB-T tuner that'll help the device double as a PVR, there's plenty to like about the newest addition to Lacie's home media range.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

We wanted to like the LaCie LaCinema Max very much. It has a superb look and feel and for playing streamed video or anything attached via a USB port, it’s a great option that demonstrably improves the original source. Unfortunately, it’s let down by unintuitive TV setup, its inclusion of a single TV tuner and the over-the-top price tag.

reghardware‘s review Edit

LaCie does deserve credit for attempting to combine the features of a DVR and network media server into a single unit and, from a technical standpoint, the Black MAX is pretty successful. You can switch from streaming music or video across your network to pausing or recording live TV with the press of a button. Unfortunately, the Black MAX is let down by its ease of use, as its limited DVR features, sluggish menu system and the ungainly Twonky software mean that many simple tasks just take longer than they should.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

LaCie’s LaCinema Black MAX is a tidy and versatile media centre that performs very well, and if you’re in the market for a PVR as well as more standard media access it’s definitely worth a look. Despite these benefits it’s still very expensive, and while there’s plenty to like about the unit we’re struggling to find a way to justify the price when you consider how much a PVR and streamer would cost if bought separately.
