Samsung Captivate Pro Reviews

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

If Samsung keeps on producing fantastic devices like the Samsung Captivate and Focus, there is no stopping them from creeping up to the top spot in the global scene. Even though they sport opposing platforms, the results in various categories are in fact relatively similar – and that's why they're both wonderful solutions in the smartphone realm. Android 2.1 on the Captivate still manages to impress with its personalized look, equally responsive feel, and depth of features akin to any mature platform.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

Samsung's Captivate offers 16GB of built-in storage. Should you need more space, you can always add storage via a microSD card. We couldn't help but notice that AT&T and Samsung did not include a microSD card with this phone. A memory card is a relatively inexpensive add-on, but since we're seeing many phones in this same price range that come with memory cards we feel like AT&T and Samsung cut a small corner here. Even so, the lack of a memory card is definitely not a deal-breaker.

phonedog‘s review Edit

Despite some questionable software decisions on Samsung's part and some questionable "value add" decisions on AT&T's part, I heartily recommend Captivate as a top-notch Android device. It's also the best smartphone currently in AT&T's lineup for anyone who doesn't want an iPhone. Don't take that to mean Captivate is/isn't better than iPhone 4 - they both have their merits, they're both excellent devices, and they both have the power to make their new owners very, very happy. Beyond that I'll leave the judgement of "Which is the best?" to your individual tastes.

A new era of smartphones is here. Where once Palm and BlackBerry stood as reigning champions now we find Google's Android devices and Apple's iPhone.

The bottom line question of the Samsung Captivate is, does it captivate the imagination? (pardon the pun) I'd have to say it does. The impressive hardware -- heat issue notwithstanding -- and the solid balance of built-in applications versus room to customize makes it well suited as a device for those upgrading from a feature phone, side-grading from an iPhone, or just looking to get into the Android OS.

Phone Scoop‘s review Edit

The Captivate is no doubt the best Android handset available from AT&T. It beats the Aria and Backflip hands down on many levels. It easily offers one of the best displays available in AT&T's entire offering. Some may not like the large size of the device (a result of the large display), and those people could be happy with the smaller Aria.

Engadget‘s review Edit

As is too often the case with Android devices these days, mediocre software threatens to spoil superb hardware. And let us say it again for emphasis - both of these phones are really pretty, attract a ton of attention, fit great in the pocket and the hand, and sport displays that will simply knock your socks off. Sure, we'd like to be able to remove some of the crapware and restore a couple morsels of functionality that AT&T saw fit to remove, but overall, Samsung's tweaks thankfully don't get in the way of enjoying these otherwise-awesome handsets.

Macworld‘s review Edit

Overall, I was pleased with the Captivate's call quality. AT&T customers discouraged by the iPhone 4's antenna issues (among other problems) will find the Samsung Captivate a worthy alternative. Its display is on a par with the iPhone 4's, and its camera's advanced settings allow users to have a lot more freedom in their photo shoots.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

AT&T customers will no longer have to resort to siding with mid-range Android offerings as the Samsung Captivate easily leaves all of its competition in the dust. It definitely has the hardware to make the iPhone 4 sweat in its tracks as the Captivate offers a responsive interface, gorgeous Super AMOLED display, and one battery life that's truly amazing. At the same time, TouchWiz 3.0 overlaying Android 2.1 is a refreshingly new experience for AT&T customers as it's able to provide users with a myriad of useful information directly from one area – plus it just looks so good!

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

Honestly, this is the best Android smartphone available to AT&T customers to date – and that's a fact! Not only does it easily trump all of the mid-range offerings released thus far for the carrier, but it stands tall amongst the elites in the Android world. With its lightning quick reflexes, navigating on the platform is very assuring as everything just moves so smoothly – which goes to show the processing prowess of its Hummingbird processor. And to tell you the truth, its customized Android experience is a refreshing new look when you take into consideration what US consumers have been limited to for the past year. In the design department, the Captivate is a compelling offering with its streamlined looks that are accented with some quality materials to make it feel solid all around.
