Kings Of Leon's Sex On Fire bounds along with verve and vigour. This all makes for a thoroughly invigorating sound. But the system isn't without some sonic niggles. Treble isn't the most refined you'll ever hear and there is room for greater solidity and oomph in the lower frequencies. Having said that, if you want an eye-catching desktop system for your PC, games console or MP3 player, then the Mako 2.1 offers good value for money. It just needs a bit more polish to achieve the full five stars.

Razer proves once again that it can turn its hand to almost any PC peripheral with resounding success. The Makos might be expensive at £250 including VAT, but their room-filling sound and competition-beating fidelity makes them the finest PC speaker set on the market right now.

The Razer Makos are a great proof of concept, showing that it is possible to fill a room with sound from just a pair of 2.1 speakers, but that concept hasn’t been fully realised yet. Razer still has to do some tweaking to the product in order to make the Mako speakers a truly compelling purchase.

Razer has created an absolutely superb set of 2.1-channel speakers in its Mako system. However, even considering the sublime styling and terrific audio quality, it's hard to recommend them over Creative's T3 speakers which retail for some £100 less. If money is no object or the Mako's price can fall below £180 then the situation would be different.
