LG HLB54S Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

Crisp, detailed sounds and plenty of inputs, but hardly any online features and it's not designed for wall mounting.

That's where home-cinema-in-a-box systems come in. And at the neatest end of that category lies the LG HLB54S. The main unit is a rather snazzy and slim soundbar, which boasts a smooth slot-loading Blu-ray drive, built-in amplification, and four speakers that attempt to simulate surround sound.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Sadly, audio performance is a disappointment by current soundbar standards, despite fine-tuning by audio guru Mark Levinson. The main unit's limited dynamic range means you get none of the expected improvement in power or clarity, especially at high volumes where you expect it most.

The HLB54S is an astonishing piece of kit. Wall mounting disappointments aside, the impressive performance, extensive feature list and stunning looks make this the best Blu-ray soundbar money can buy - even though that price tag seems steep, you certainly get what you pay for.

Let's cut to the chase - if you're after a Blu-ray soundbar, this is the one to beat. With tons of features, including built-in Wi-Fi, HDMI switching and MKV playback, the HLB54S is more appealing on paper than the HT-BD8200, plus its sound quality has a bit more power and presence to it.
