Sony Walkman NWZ-X1050 Pro Reviews

ITreviews‘s review Edit

We're not fans of the fiddly built-in web browser, but the NWZ-X1050 is an otherwise excellent portable media player. The screen is bright and clear, it's easy to use and, above all, audio quality is simply stunning. If you've no need for the additional features offered by the iPod Touch or simply want a more compact player, the NWZ-X1050 comes highly recommended.

Featuring an OLED touchscreen with 432 x 240 resolution, it borrows a fair bit from the iPod Touch, with one ‘home’ button on the unit itself taking you to nine touchscreen icons for the key functions. The 3in screen is fairly responsive but doesn’t have the same elegant dexterity as its Apple rival – you can’t zoom in and out of the internet browser using finger controls, for example and it would be nice if it was a little bit bigger.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Frankly, Sony needs to price this one at or below the going rate for the touch in order to make those in the market think twice about how often they'll actually use applications downloaded from the App Store. Between the S9 and the OLED Walkman, we're giving the early edge to Sony; the software here is far more polished and it actually has WiFi, something the S9 is sorely missing. The OLED revolution may be stuck in first gear, but this device is a brilliant example of why this technology deserves a slot in today's consumer electronics arena.

The minimalist interface of the included file transfer tool made me beam with joy, since it does exactly what it has to do, without asking too much from the system or taking up too much memory. The media player accessories are mainly practical, and ensure the Sony Walkman X1050 will suit you for a long time. I am very satisfied with this media player, and can't wait for future Sony MP3 players in the X product line.

An expensive player, but it’s well designed and has a sumptuous 3in screen

Sony's NWZ-X1050 X Series Walkman OLED portable media player is one attractive Internet-capable PMP whose overall features recommend it for those people who are looking for a full-fledged, touchscreen PMP, but are not quite keen on going for an Apple product. It delivers great noise-canceling features, crystal-clear, powerful sound, a fairly good functioning life, as well as an OK storage capacity. Not a particularly good web browser, but, in the end, that can be overlooked.

We were really impressed with the quality of the music and the great screen and overall design impresses. The bundled headphones too are welcomed, but can be bettered.
