Vivitek H1085 Pro Reviews

www.hometheater.com‘s review Edit

The Vivitek H1085 calibrates very well and provides an effective CMS, and it exhibits good detail with 1080p sources and good color overall. However, it also suffers from very poor blacks and shadow detail, resulting in an image that is dingy and dull with little pop except in bright scenes. Alas, it does not satisfy my quest for a high-performance, low-cost projector.

Like most projectors at this price, the H1085FD makes a few compromises and requires tweaking to deepen the black tones and improve sharpness. It didn't suffer too badly from the dreaded DLP rainbow effect in high-contrast sequences of most films, although it was obvious on black and white footage. This is a great value 1080p projector, but there are others with better image quality and colours for a similar price.

These really are exciting times to be buying a budget projector. For as with a number of rival models we’ve seen recently, while the H1085 certainly doesn’t entirely shake off the inevitable shackles of its low price, it’s still astonishingly watchable and ambitious for its money. In fact, for me the way it manages to deliver brightness and contrast while still reining in DLP’s rainbow effect actually makes it the pick of the current sub-£1k projector crop.
