LG 50PK990 Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

The 50KP990 is a highly impressive set at it delivers beautifully crisp and vivid pictures with both HD content and standard definition Freeview channels. It’s also got good PC streaming support and the presence of both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is a boon. My only real reservation is that Panasonic’s P50G20 is now available for much the same price – 46in review here – and offers slightly deeper blacks and a Freesat tuner alongside the Freeview HD one for much the same price. However, it’s looks nowhere near as stylish as this LG model.

Looks stunning - with or without a picture - and it's supremely well specified

AVForums‘s review Edit

Unfortunately, image retention is still an irritating issue, and intrusive video processing, while not entirely devastating, is completely unnecessary, especially on what is supposed to be a flagship model. Beyond these quirks, there's enough to like: colour accuracy is excellent, and the 20-point Greyscale calibration control brings Reference quality performance in this area.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The LG 50PK990 is a stunningly well-featured screen that puts plasma back on the map; it’s not quite reference-level, but with Freeview HD, DivX HD, Bluetooth and NetCast, this 50-inch is more media centre than movie mogul.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

While LG may be a jot behind its Japanese counterpart in terms of pure picture quality, the 50PK990 is deserving of its flagship status because of the way it combines some diverse features – such as USB playback, Net Cast, Bluetooth and Freeview HD – and delivers it with an ease of use that's not yet been matched by any other brand.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The 50PK990 improves on the 50PK790. Subtly when it comes to black level response, and majorly when it comes to image retention. Yet we still can’t quite bring ourselves to award it, partly because of a couple of little careless areas of picture indiscipline, and partly because we’ve spotted Panasonic’s P50G20 selling for a similar price, despite carrying a superior online service, Freesat and Freeview HD tuners (the LG only has Freeview HD), and, we suspect, even better HD pictures. Watch this space for a review of the P50G20 soon.
