KODAK PlaySport Zx3 Pro Reviews

Macworld‘s review Edit

Though the Playsport Zx3 isn't the easiest camera to use, it does a very good job at performing its main duty: making videos. If you care more about the quality of the videos you want to make than how easy it is to operate the camera you want to make the videos with, then the Playsport Zx3 is a good choice.

The Kodak Playsport doesn’t break any particular new ground. However, at just shy of £90 it provides quite a lot for your money, offering both 1080p and underwater shooting. Panasonic's HM-TA1 is currently the best deal of all, Sony's Bloggie Touch has some unique abilities, and JVC's PICSIO GC-FM2 offers the most features in this class. But the Playsport would be perfect for capturing beach or river activities at a very affordable price, making it well worth considering if your needs are more outdoor oriented.

A great mini camcorder with waterproofing, and all for less money than many of its liquid-adverse competitors.

Despite issues with sound quality and some control niggles, the Kodak PlaySport is a tough, fun and cool digital camcorder that is a perfect companion for holiday makers and extreme sports fans at an excellent price.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Overall, you're getting this camera for its rugged and waterproof aspects, and at those points the camera performs wonderfully. Eventually we hope Kodak starts to innovate in the image quality arena as well, and we sure hope they can manage to avoid the sort of form factor misstep the Flip Slide HD turned out, but for now the company is putting out an impressive streak of wallet-friendly pocket cameras, and the Zx3 is no exception.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

Waterproof or not, the Kodak Playsport Zx3 is a fine minicamcorder for its price and size. It is more rugged than the average pocket video camera, but it certainly isn't indestructible. The video is excellent for its class, though, and the sacrifices for its rugged construction are more inconvenient than insurmountable.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

$150 for a underwater-sealed, pocket-going, 720p/30/60-shooting camera. I say I’d take it on vacation with me anywhere not because it’ll provide the best video or stills, but because I don’t have to worry about it, it’s compact, and it’ll live through just about anything. Every family should have something like this around.

The $150 Kodak Playsport Video Camera fits in your pocket, captures 1080p footage and 5-megapixel still images—and you can take it in the pool.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

When playing back our underwater footage fresh from the tank as the Kodak PlaySport Zx3’s innards seemed to be working rather hard, but this and the sluggish zoom were our only real negatives. A great little camcorder to take on a trip to the beach, you’ll probably find yourself leaving its limited settings alone and simply shooting on the go.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

This affordable and portable palm camcorder from Kodak strikes the right notes, but there is already fierce competition out there from other pocket offerings in the Creative Vado HD, Flip MinoHD et al. However in Kodak's favour the build quality feels better than both these competitors, and further optional accessories for going that extra mile with the inexpensive and fun Zx3 come in the shape of handlebar and helmet mounts. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Indeed the Zx3 transcended what we expected to find for its very fair price - and you can take it out in the rain too.
