LAPTOP Magazine‘s review Edit

This DSLR is cheap and easy to use, but its speed and image quality aren’t up to snuff.

A good value for the price, but a few more bucks buys you better performance in low light

A fully-fledged mid-range DSLR in a compact body, at an entry-level price – this is how one could distill the essence of the Olympus E-520 into one sentence.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

Olympus offer a nice and convenient assortment of DSLR cameras. Innovative is the word for the Olympus E-520, and where possible, this camera has been improved on essential points. Therefore, we really do like this camera; it is a beautiful tool to perform DSLR photography on quite a high level.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

The E-520 is a logical step in the Olympus's digital SLR evolution. With headlining features that include Face Detection, Contrast-Detect AF in Live View, Wireless Remote Flash control, and an increased maximum shooting speed of 3.5 frames per second, the 10-megapixel Olympus E-520 is basically a slightly larger E-420 with built-in image stabilization.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

With the E-520, Olympus has added a broad array of enhancements to what was already a feature-packed camera. So on top of a DSLR which offered built-in stabilisation, live view and effective anti-dust, you now also get faster continuous shooting, a slightly bigger screen, contrast-based AF with face detection, a new IS mode, improved dynamic range and live previews of several adjustments. A surprise bonus is also the optional underwater housing.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

This isn't a major upgrade by any means and wouldn't warrant a switch from the E-510, but if you're looking for a feature packed midrange DSLR, the E-520 is worth considering. The improvements, particularly the new image stabilisation mode and autofocus accuracy of Live Modes show that these important technologies are still being perfected, and the latest versions on the E-520 are pretty much as good as they get at the moment.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

In terms of overall approach, the E-520 may well be the most flexible consumer DSLR we've reviewed this year: whereas the Nikon D60 proved to be an excellent first SLR, and new models from Canon and Pentax have aimed to appeal to a slightly more advanced audience, the E-520 does both at once.

DP Review‘s review Edit

The Olympus E-520 is a refreshed version of Olympus's upper-entry-level camera, the E-510. As such it's a slightly bulked-up E-420 with image stabilization, which makes it one of the most feature-packed and customizable cameras...
