ATI Radeon HD 5550 Pro Reviews

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

The 5550 stands as a firm reminder that just because something is new and shiny doesn't automatically mean it's essential. One of the most important elements of video card shopping is to know your goals. If yours don't extend much beyond "powering the monitor slightly better than could the integrated graphics," then the 5550 will do the trick inexpensively, and better than the 5450. AMD also positions the card, at least partially, as being a good home theater choice, and if you can find a good half-height version of the card, that may be true. (The version AMD sent us was full height.)

It's really a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to looking at the HD 5550 GDDR5. All of a sudden NVIDIA has thrown models at us with low price tags and massive performance. The same can't be said with the HD 5550 GDDR5. In saying that, the model is in another price bracket. Considering it's under $100, you have to put that into perspective here.
