Acer's Aspire 8930G, with its 18.4in full HD screen and 4kg weight, isn't what we'd call a portable laptop, but it's well-equipped for entertainment so it could take the place of a desktop PC.

The Acer Aspire 8930 offers a great combination of price and purpose. Our only reservations relate to our review model's lack of a Blu-ray drive (since the machine has a Full HD display but its video card won't run games at that resolution, you'll want something to show the screen off), as well as to the likelihood that you'll need to buy a new laptop bag to transport this 18.4in monster.

With only the slightly spongy keyboard to let it down, the Aspire 8930G is a great media centre. It offers an exceptional feature set, impressive performance and is great value for money.
