Olympus E-30 Pro Reviews

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

In terms of image quality, performance, features, and design, the Olympus E-30 stacks up well against other digital SLRs in its price range. Its creative features are a plus, and we very much liked having the swing-out LCD screen. We were a little surprised that the Olympus E-30 does not have a video capture mode, since it seems perfectly designed for recording movies. But that nit aside, we think this is an excellent tool for creative photographers who want professional features at a reasonable price.

I'm impressed with the results that the E-30 has produced and I think that the resolution is about right for the sensor size and noise performance. I would consider this as a back up camera for an existing pro E system as a lighter alternative and if you're in this position then it's a camera to consider.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Olympus E-30 shares many of the E-3's key features at a price more suited to these straightened times. There are heaps of other features on board this innovative DSLR, including CCD image stabilisation, a swivel screen, a highly effective dust-removal system and wireless lash control. It's fair to say that the E-30 has just about everything you'd ever want from a DSLR.

Shutterbug‘s review Edit

While some may consider the Four Thirds system to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the D-SLR world, there is no doubt it has enabled Olympus to produce a series of cameras that represent one of, if not, the best pixel per dollar value today. All that is combined with a build quality that on a model-to-model basis is superior to its competition, especially at the entry-level end of the D-SLR spectrum. So instead of coming up with another me-too D-SLR, Olympus decided to build an impressive camera that goes where none has gone before, the Olympus E-30.

This model packs many features and impressed us in daylight, but its high-ISO performance was unimpressive

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The E-30 provides a level of control and features most professional level DSLRs would appreciate and at a great price too. True, the resolution might look a tad limiting now both Nikon, canon and Sony have 20-megapixel plus models out there, but you cannot argue with this camera’s feature set and price otherwise.

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

The E-30 by Olympus is another great entry into a quickly growing class of dSLR cameras. Although it doesn't have the performance or quality to blow away all of the other cameras, it has no problem keeping up. At the same time it does include a wide variety of artistic and creative features that you will not find on the others. Although it does not have any video capabilities, which HD is a big feature starting to show up on dSLR's.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

Olympus E30 is a serious DSLR offering extensive functionality. It's true that on some points the camera is being surpassed by some competitors; but the overall impression of the camera is that it is a strong and convincing DSLR camera. The Olympus E-30 is a pleasant camera to work with, one that challenges the photographer to be creative and to venture beyond just that simple snapshot; a real challenge!

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Olympus E-30 produces superbly sharp pictures, but at higher ISOs its images get extremely noisy - plus it's missing a lot of niceties we'd like in a higher-end D-SLR.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The E-30 is a brave attempt by Olympus to offer something different in the mid-range DSLR market, with a strong emphasis on in-camera creative effects that actually prove to be fun to use. The Multiple Exposure mode in particular is a great example of making a traditional photographic technique easier.

There were a few minor bumps in the road for the E-30, but as a rule, we've come away generally impressed from our time with this camera. Olympus has certainly packed in all the right features to make this model appealing to the enthusiast market.

A great general-purpose dSLR, the Olympus E-30 offers an attractive alternative for advanced shooters not yet wedded to a system.

DP Review‘s review Edit

Olympus DSLRs keep getting better, and the E-30 is undoubtedly the best yet. Despite only twelve months gap between them the E-30 is a considerably more appealing camera than the E-3 (which, thanks to its tank-like construction, still sits above it in the range). This isn't because the image quality is better (which at lower ISO settings it arguably is - certainly it has more highlight dynamic range and a touch more resolution), but because it's just so much nicer to use.
