nVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Pro Reviews

computershopper‘s review Edit

With plenty of horsepower to drive demanding games on 24-inch and smaller monitors, this speedy, quiet, and cool-running video card is a price-conscious gamer’s dream come true.

To put it simply, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 is a fantastic product. It is priced right; it performs admirably; it is dead quiet; it sips power; it runs cool, and it overclocks like a monster without voltage modification.

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

The GTX 460 is a big step in the right direction for Nvidia, and is well positioned to help shore up the company's deficit in the market of midrange shoppers. Nvidia will need to come up with solutions for the rest of the industry—and fast—in order to keep up with AMD. But the GTX 460 shows, really for the first time with Fermi, that Nvidia may be able to pull it off after all.

This is the first time that we have seen NVIDIA branded video cards being sold direct and we went to a few Best Buy stores in St. Louis today and sure enough, we spotted the cards sitting on store shelves. We couldn't leave the store empty handed, so we bought the card for $299.99 and headed back to see what it was all about.

NVIDIA's new GF104 GPU might just be the savior the company was looking for as it is delivering in all the areas that are required for a successful mainstream graphics product. The GeForce GTX 460 is faster than the Radeon HD 5830, costs about the same, is just as power efficient and has room for overclocking. If you are looking for a new graphics card in the $200 budget, NVIDIA looks to have the best solution available!

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

As the results show, little can stand in the way of two GeForce GTX 460s in SLI configuration, especially the 1GB variants. It completely pummels the GeForce GTX 470, Radeon HD 5870 and even the GeForce GTX 480 into submission. Additionally, two 1GB GeForce GTX 460 in SLI is even able to match and, in some instances, even outperform the dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970. Again, the GeForce GTX 460 shows just how good value for money it is.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

Overall, we are impressed with the GeForce GTX 460. Not only does it offer compelling performance, it is also markedly cooler to run than any other Fermi and less power hungry. For one, we are very impressed with the performance of the GeForce GTX 460. In all cases, the 1GB variant of it has proved itself to be as quick as, if not faster, than the GeForce GTX 465.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

Nevertheless, it’s hard to make a list of things not to like about the GeForce GTX 460. Nvidia has addressed most, if not all, of what concerned us when the GeForce GTX 480 and 470 launched using GF104. The GeForce GTX 460 1 GB centering on that chip is truly worthy of a rare Recommended Buy award.

Tom's Hardware‘s review Edit

Asus, ECS, Gigabyte, and MSI try to balance their cost against the needs of most buyers by providing a warranty that’s exactly three years long. Among these manufacturers, Asus has the greatest peak cooling capability and clock speed, Gigabyte has the lowest price, and MSI falls in the middle with a huge cooler and moderate price.

hardwarecanucks‘s review Edit

When designing the GF104, NVIDIA obviously wanted to provide gamers with an excellent budgetary solution and fill in some gaps that ATI left open in the market. We feel like the GTX 460 1GB and 768MB do just that and then some. These cards provide some of the best performance we have seen in the sub-$250 category and should go a long way towards reestablishing NVIDIA’s dominance in gamers’ minds.
