The latest data from Google's own Android Developer site shows that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system has reached an important milestone, as it is now more prevalent than the older Android 2.2 Froyo version.
According to the data, which looks at devices that have accessed the Android Market within the past two weeks, 2.3 Gingerbread is now installed on 44 percent of Android smartphones and tablets, compared to 40.7 percent for 2.2 Froyo. Gingerbread has gained almost 7 percent of market share in the past month. Older versions, like 2.1 Eclair and 1.6 Donut, maintain 10.7 percent and 1.4 percent market share, respectively. »read more
