Gateway NV5214u Pro Reviews

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

It’s a nicely-equipped system for the price. You get a fast processor, tons of RAM, a decent graphics chip, and a beautiful screen, along with thoughtful extras like HDMI out and Bluetooth. However, as a portable computer, it’s not very portable at all. If it’s destined to sit on a desk for most of its life, though, the NV series packs plenty of bang for the buck.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

If you’re planning to carry around your notebook between classes (or indeed regularly between rooms at home) then you may want to look at a lighter, more power-independent model than the Gateway. If, though, you’re content with just occasional lifting then the greater performance of the NV5214u’s grown-up components easily oust the netbook competition. The design is fair and construction reasonable, but it’s the budget price that really tips the scales in the Gateway NV5214u’s favor.

NotebookReview‘s review Edit

The Gateway NV5214u proved to be a very capable multimedia notebook with good looks and very good build quality. Gateway has been really improving the looks of recent notebooks, going with a more designer look and feel over the bland designs of the past. Build quality was very good, with the screen cover being the only area that had some minor flex. The keyboard and palmrest were rock solid and showed no distortion even under strong pressure.

tweaktown‘s review Edit

The Gateway NV5214u notebook is the third fastest notebook that I have ever tested and did it at a price only marginally higher than your typical netbook. The performance for dollar factor here is very impressive. The big downside to the machine is its battery life, but if you want a long run time then you should get an ultraportable. This notebook is a powerful machine and will do all you want but play intense 3D video games.

Looking at first glance nothing like a $499 laptop, the AMD-based NV5214u is a steal, though its performance is more telling.
