Philips BDP3000/12 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

A beautiful design and nippy performance can't disguise the fact that the BDP3000 lacks features and has some serious flaws as well.

Of all our Blu-ray player reviews, this Philips is the first machine to sneak in with an RRP of under £200 – now, the high-definition format really is in reach for the masses.

reghardware‘s review Edit

The BDP3000 is a solidly built Blu-ray, DVD and CD media player that performs extremely well. It also provides a decent range of video-out and audio-out ports, plus an Ethernet connection. It is not an all-round media player, though: there is no wireless network support and the only way to get any media into the player is to burn it onto CD first. All this makes it seem expensive, although it is comparable in price to many other Blu-ray players.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

Despite excellent build quality, cool minimalist styling and a simple approach to onscreen menus and fast disc playback, it’s this deck’s excellent value pictures that should give it a wide appeal, despite the slightly cumbersome BD-Live arrangement.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

It's a shame the front panel doesn't include a media-savvy USB input, as most cheap DVD players now do; the rear USB port is exclusively for storage of BD Live downloads and firmware upgrades. That niggle aside, this is a good value, basic deck. It may not be possessed of a few of the features its rivals carry, but the BDP3000's excellent onscreen menus and sturdy picture quality make it great value all the same.

Although the BDP3000 lacks a variety of features, such as DTS HD Master Audio decoding, built-in memory and USB media playback, they're the sort of things you can live without, particularly at this price. But when it comes to the important stuff like build quality, ease of use and picture quality, the BDP3000 delivers the goods, making this a great choice if you want to get into Blu-ray on a tight budget.
