What is the best Ubuntu/Linux version for absolute beginners? I'm talking only about the ones with GUI.

Precisely. If you have the time to investigate, research and eventually succeed at tweaking to the levels of full satisfaction, then the open source is just for you. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are keen on doing that when there are paid alternatives already developed for all your needs. Plus, almost all the software lately is available with fully working free trials - test it, like it, calculate time spent tweaking vs money that could be earned using it, and buy it if it suits you. Win-win here without additional troubles.

You just buy and use...that is what I like in paid software. Free software is not only time, but nerves :)
