LG 47LD950 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

This is the first ‘passive’ 3D TV we’ve seen – and it could be the last. That’s no judgement on the TV – it's the technology. With the rapid, re-emergence of 3D video, it was thought that the two technologies, passive and active-shutter, would remain separate.

AVForums‘s review Edit

Ultimately I can't recommend the 47LD950 due to some of its limitations and because hopefully cheaper passive 3D displays that can reproduce a full 1080p 3D image will be released in 2011. However as a technology I am a huge fan of the passive method of delivering 3D and I honestly believe that if 3D is to succeed as a mass market format this is the best approach. I also feel that LG are to be congratulated for producing displays that use both 3d technologies and providing the consumer with a choice.

Some underwhelming standard definition pictures join with the lack of Freeview HD playback, missing Ethernet-related features, CCFL lighting and arguably even the passive approach to 3D in making the 47LD950 feel curiously dated for what is ostensibly an innovative TV. There seems little doubt that LG’s passive 3D approach will continue to do healthy business in the commercial sector, where active shutter glasses just aren’t practical. But if it’s going to make a similar impact in our living rooms, it’s really going to have to do better with 3D Blu-rays next time out.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

There is most definitely a place in the world for the 47LD950. Its ability to make 3D the social, event- driven technology it ought to be, thanks to its freedom from expensive, brand-specific glasses, is bound to find it an audience.

reghardware‘s review Edit

LG's passive 3D TV is really only a modest 2D TV, but the cheaper glasses make it is the most affordable option for getting into 3D - and for presenting 3D content to a large number of friends and family at one sitting.
