Samsung Galaxy S Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

The Galaxy S is serious competition for the Apple iPhone. And, when you consider the fact that it's free on a contract, in many eyes this smartphone becomes the smarter option.

Slim, light, with a gorgeous AMOLED screen, fast processor and Android's easy-to-use interface and wealth of apps, the Galaxy S sets the benchmark for Android hardware

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

However, out of the HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Galaxy S, we would pick Samsung's finest, and we'll tell you why. The Galaxy S might be bland looking in its all-plastic body, but it is incredibly thin, light, durable and easy to handle because of that - for a handset with a 4” screen, that is. We also know that we'll be cursing ourselves that we chose a slightly bigger screen if the battery runs out after just an average day with the device, and we have no way to charge it.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Four inches is probably the largest a smartphone screen can go and remain viable for carrying and for making voice calls. Where it adds huge amounts is in its ability to display web pages and video content. As a flagship handset for the year, we'd say the Samsung Galaxy S is a very good effort.

The Samsung Galaxy S has everything that a cell phone needs nowadays. You can easily use all the multimedia on this cell phone. The large screen ensures for a great display and via the built-in speaker or headset, you can also enjoy your favorite music. Thanks to the Android operating system, combined with the fast 1 GHz processor, everything works nice and fast. Internet and e-mail are, as always, easy to use, especially with a Google account with which everything can be synchronized wirelessly. It is too bad that the phone does not offer any support for Flash websites.

AnandTech‘s review Edit

Ultimately, the Fascinate is up against the HTC Incredible, Motorola Droid 2 and Droid X on Verizon. It's better than the Incredible for sure so let's just kick that out of the running. The Droid 2 has a physical keyboard which the Fascinate does not, so if you need physical keys you have your answer. Which leaves us with the Droid X. Motorola gives you better battery life, a better GPS experience and the freedom to be given Google Maps and Search from the start. Samsung on the other hand gives you a smaller form factor, a faster SoC and a punchier display. If you're on the road a lot, use GPS, and need the most out of each charge, pick the Droid X. If you don't mind Droid 1 battery life and a flaky GPS which will hopefully be fixed quickly, go for the Fascinate.

As usual, in the end it all comes to personal preferences. Both handsets are outstanding representatives of the first and second cell phone producers in the world, but there are many differences that will make picking one or the other an easy choice, depending on the usage scenarios. If you watch a lot of movies on your commute, read e-books and documents, play games, or just prefer the slick TouchWiz 3.0 and the versatility of Android plus Android Market on a giant 4” Super AMOLED screen, powered by the most powerful mobile graphics chipset so far, you may want to go with the Samsung Galaxy S.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

We tested the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and it tested us in return. It bared its teeth at us and so did we. Ours was a grin. Easy boy, good beast. There goes the new leader of the Android pack. The Samsung I9000 Galaxy S has oomph to spare and even hardened geeks like us cannot help but acknowledge its compelling power.

reghardware‘s review Edit

The Galaxy S has a lot of great things going for it, not least that marvellous screen, the latest Android OS and wealth of apps, plus the quality and range of the 5Mp camera. But it's let down, if only a little, by a few inconsistencies. The camera's good, but why no flash? A little more thought could have gone into the widgets available with more promised, such as iPlayer access. Also the social networking functions could be more tightly integrated. That said, it's still a terrific handset and well worth considering if you haven't bought into iPhone fandom.

Words are unnecessary (but we use them anyway) to describe the technological tour de force that the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 is. It makes its appearance in the wake of a slew of other similarly high-powered Android smartphones, yet bests them all with a gloriously beautiful (and sunlight-usable, hurrah!) Super AMOLED display and a homegrown 1 GHz processor borne of the same innovation as that in the iPhone, but now with even more power to spare.

The Galaxy S should have been a cracking handset and in many ways it is. Its screen is very good, it's fast, it's packed with features, and looks pretty decent as well. Certainly if you're looking for a large and powerful Android smartphone, it's up there with the best. However, there's no escaping the fact that it feels like a blatant copy of a certain other phone and, moreover, it doesn't have the fit and finish to really make you want it.

The Samsung Galaxy S boasts a gorgeous Super AMOLED display and a bevvy of multimedia features, but some users might be disappointed by the absence of a flash on its camera.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Samsung Galaxy S is the best smartphone Samsung has made so far, and it's easy to see in the build quality and sheer functionality of the device. It excels at movies, music and internet, is a good messaging device and works fast and promptly, with minimal slowdown (although we did experience a little bit of slight freezing from time to time).

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Samsung Galaxy S is certainly a competitive device, with the Super AMOLED screen being a real star, making your content look sensational. It might not be constructed from premium materials like the iPhone 4 or the HTC Desire, but we like it all the same: it is comfortable to use, a great device for consuming media.

SlashGear‘s review Edit

Is the occasionally staccato performance enough to sour the Galaxy S altogether, however? We’re not entirely sure what’s causing the occasional lag – poor CPU throttling perhaps – but we’re hoping Samsung can address it with a minor firmware patch. As it stands, it’s a frustrating mar on what’s otherwise a very strong smartphone experience. The Galaxy S’ screen is the best this side of a Retina Display – and larger too – while the phone, albeit erring on the plastic side, is well made and has impressive multimedia skills. It’s also slim, so despite the screen size can drop into a front pocket without causing problems.

Phone Arena‘s review Edit

All in all, we think the Samsung GALAXY S is a really cool phone, with just a few quirks, the biggest of which is the lack of camera flash. We certainly hope that the phone won't suffer from lack of support and the company would provide timely updates to Android 2.2 and the versions the will follow. There is a lot to like in the Samsung GALAXY S I9000, and once you start using such a huge and vibrant display on the thin and light handset, it is hard to go back to anything humbler.
