LG BX580 Pro Reviews

Macworld‘s review Edit

Above all else, the BX580's excellent image quality makes this player a contender. The price is a little high if you don't care about 3D, and the lack of a second HDMI port is a problem if you do. But if you want an excellent Blu-ray player that will be ready for 3D in the future (and if your future will include a new receiver) this is the one.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

First impressions of the BX580 in action aren't great, though. For starters, the deck takes a startlingly long time to load discs, averaging not far short of a minute for most of the titles I tried it with, and hitting 52 seconds with the Tech Labs reference platter. The deck also crashed a couple of times during my tests, despite apparently having the most up-to-date firmware.

The BX580 has a lot going for it. It’s teeming with tempting features, most notably 3D playback and built-in Wi-Fi, and a terrific range of networking features, plus its 3D performance is impressive – not quite as impressive as Panasonic’s systems mind, but its sharp and absorbing 3D pictures are still enjoyable. It’s a little shakier with 2D material, some sluggishness besets the operating system and you only get one HDMI output, but with a much lower price tag than its 3D player rivals, you might be prepared to make a few sacrifices.

The BX580’s a good upscaler of DVDs, too, offering up The Ghost with an impressive combination of image stability and fine detail, so you can see all of the imperfections in Pierce Brosnan’s reluctantly ageing face, but you’re spared the occasional shimmer that some rivals find in tight patterns.
