iriver P7 Pro Reviews

www.whathifi.com‘s review Edit

As an old-style resistive touchscreen, it also seems dated and basic compared with the capacitive screens from Apple and Sony, which allow for more advanced, multitouch control.Switch to music, and there's support for MP3, WMA, Ogg, FLAC and WAV, but not AAC files. It sounds open, lively and expansive, though there's a touch of brightness and lack of weight.

The P7 may not be perfect, but it's the most convincing product iRiver have put out in quite a while. We liked the look and feel and welcome that iRiver has, at last, managed to combine both on-board memory and card storage data into one library. File support is pretty solid, only let down by the slightly flaky H.264 playback and issues with ID3 tags. Audio performance was top notch and video playback was better than anticipated. Moreover, the touch-screen ‘magazine’ UI is not only rather clever and well thought out, but it actually works.

Engadget‘s review Edit

Overall, we'd be happy to grab the P7 for a long flight and watch a full-length movie on it, but the limitations of media management and codec support mean it'd be a bit of an "event" to prep a movie for the player - and a chore to use the player on a regular basis. There's little to fault the player in all of this, but it's a reality of the way we use a PMP these days, and something iriver seems to be addressing by increasing functionality in upcoming players such as the WiFi-equipped P35.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The iriver P7 is all about "buts": It's the size of a hard disk-based media player, but is slim on built-in memory, and there's no Web access. And the sprawling 4.3-inch screen is great for movies, but you'll need a stylus for navigation.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Iriver P7 is like a beautifully crafted concept car with a frustrating lack of horsepower, but the price is compelling.

A fine PMP with good sound and an innovative, very usable UI. If iRiver could just lower the price and iron out a few niggles, it would have a real contender on its hands.
