The SteelSeries 7G is practically the same keyboard as the 6Gv2. The additional $50 you pay for the SteelSeries 7G gets you extra features (two USB ports and an audio passthrough jack), and a detachable hard plastic wrist-rest.

The SteelSeries 7G can be yours for $149.99 (PriceGrabber). While this may seem like a lot of money for a gaming keyboard but you must remember it is a Mechanical keyboard at heart and will likely outlast most if not all of your entire system. The gaming related features of the SteelSeries 7G are anti-ghosting, quick response keys and the omission of the windows key on the left of the space bar. It hasn't made a great deal of difference to my game but it is a damn good keyboard to type on.

The key action on the 7G is decidedly different than most gaming keyboards. The keys have a fairly long travel, and a good amount of tension. This, together with the mechanical switches and louder clicking sensation make it a little tough to get used to at first. The feel is deliberate, which some users will equate with accuracy. For us, we found it didn't really make for more precise or accurate key presses during gaming and slowed down our typing speed a bit. Again, it's a personal preference thing.

The SteelSeries 7G gaming keyboard is certainly the most responsive and solidly built keyboard we've ever used so if you don't want any gimmicks and feel your current keyboard's performance is holding you back then it's certainly worth considering. However, it's severe lack of features such as programmable macro keys, LCD displays, and shortcut keys combined with its very high asking price means it's not one we'd recommend for most people.
