But even so, the LG is so good at what it does (and the future it heralds is so exciting) that we’re justifiably excited about it. If they could resolve the judder with Blu-rays, we'd give it five stars at the price. And if they can make it at reasonable money, the future belongs to OLED.

In one of the TV coups of the year LG has both increased the size of delectable OLED technology by 4 inches (compared to Sony’s 2008 effort) and slashed the price in half. Equally as astonishing is the 15EL9500’s contrast-heavy and vividly coloured screen that’s closer to reality than anything existing tech - including 3DTVs - can offer. Beautifully engineered, the only question is: how badly do you need a luxury TV on your desk? OLED needs to upsize, and fast.

The 15EL9500 produces far and away the finest pictures we’ve seen on a 15in TV. In fact, it produces some of the finest pictures we’ve ever seen on any TV, period. As such, it reminds us all over again of just why OLED got us hot under the collar when we first saw it in action at shows a couple of years ago.

The last big thing that got me so enthusiastic was the Pioneer panels and they haven’t been available for quite some time now. This little OLED TV offers a real step forward in terms of picture quality and comes as standard with a slim design. It is frustrating that we have been waiting for OLED for about the last 5 years, or so, with baited breath. This panel shows us what is possible but will we ever get to see it in large screen sizes and will it still offer this kind of performance when added to such large screen sizes? We certainly hope that is the case.
