Pentax X90 Pro Reviews

reghardware‘s review Edit

Overall, the X90 is a very good all-in-one camera that thanks to its brilliant superzoom lens that covers a wide range of photographic situations. Although at times it handles and behaves like a DSLR, the image quality and noise performance are more in line with other CCD based compacts. While it might not live up to DSLR standards it surely is a good choice for any compact camera user looking to upgrade and at the current asking price it is very good value for money.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

In the end, even though I wanted to love it for its design, the Pentax X90's performance stifled any affection. Any way you spell it, the Pentax X90 is close but gets no cigar. The Pentax X90 is not a bad camera by any means, but we'd steer you toward others for better quality and performance for the price.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Pentax X90 is a good an all-in-one option for someone who wants to step up from a 3x zoom pocket compact, but prefers the portability and usability of a bridge model over a full-blown dSLR requiring costly lenses. It offers good zoom range, a nice and clear control layout, and is quick and responsive in operation. On the down side we didn't like the Pentax X90's plastic feel, the optical zoom deactivated when video recording and it suffers from average low-light performance. There's also no Raw shooting.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

While it took Pentax longer than most to get into the compact digital ultrazoom class, their X70 was by most accounts a worthy addition to that field. Pentax has improved on the original a bit and the new X90 has corrected some of the X70 deficiencies, notably battery life and AF acquisition time at wide angle. Still image quality got generally good reviews in the first camera and the X90 follows suit with good image and color reproduction. The camera affords the user an above average number of inputs into some automatic settings, most notably ISO sensitivity.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

A zoom range of this level is certainly an interesting prospect and will definitely suit those looking for that kind of flexibility, while being able to travel light. The camera performs well, producing images with good clarity at sensitivities of ISO200 or lower. Given the huge telephoto at your disposal it would've been nice if the camera performed better at higher sensitivities though.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The target audience for the Pentax X90 is surely the existing compact camera user looking to upgrade, as well as the family user. But then the same audience will also be ideally suited to an entry level DSLR or a lower-priced Micro Four Thirds type interchangeable lens camera for that matter. So what's the difference here?

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

Overall the camera can capture nice photos, but suffers from noise and an inaccurate white balance system under certain conditions. Performance is great, matching up well to other Super-Zoom cameras with higher price tags.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

Although it is only a relatively minor upgrade over the X70, it's enough to put the Pentax X90 into the top bracket of superzoom cameras. Build quality, design and handling are right up there with the best, and the improved performance and battery duration are very welcome. There's still room for further improvement in image quality, but the results are far from disappointing.
