Bookeen Cybook Opus Pro Reviews

Macworld‘s review Edit

Like the previous version, the revised Bookeen Cybook Opus lacks some of the frills you get from less-expensive e-readers such as the Sony Reader Pocket Edition. It has no support for wireless content downloads, and no built-in music player. And although the Opus ships with a preinstalled library of public-domain books in several languages, it offers no dictionary or annotation support. Nevertheless, it looks handsome, it’s easy to use with fairly snappy page turns, and its extensive font options and small size might make it worth its premium pricing.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

With no really fancy features, and a small and pocket-friendly design, the Cybook Opus is one of the best ereaders we have seen.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

Ease of use counts for a lot with with ereaders and we have no complaints about the Cybook Opus 2010 edition. It is a bit small for some tastes, but the new, faster software and slight battery life improvement are welcome. If you are in the market for an ereader this is definitely one for the shortlist.

bit-tech‘s review Edit

Unfortunately, it isn’t all good news and no matter how much we like the size and shape of the Opus it’s hard to get away from the frustrating combination of high price and low build quality. Looking further afield there’s very little modding going on for the Opus too, which gives the Kindle or Sony’s Reader series another lead.

reghardware‘s review Edit

Do the new colours, faster firmware and lower price make the Opus any more recommendable? If you only plan on reading ePub files, don't miss a music player and can live with the lack of bookmarks then yes, but I would like to have seen some of the device's more obvious shortcomings addressed in this update. That said, it's nifty to navigate and has a respectable battery life.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Bookeen Cybook Opus has pretty much everything you need to read a lot of books, in a very small and lightweight package. But you won't find extras such as a music player, the ability to create notes, or text-to-speech support . And though the Sony Reader Pocket Edition is heavier than the Opus and has fewer font options, it is similar in size and usually costs less. Then again, if extra features aren't important to you and portability and great font-size flexibility are prime concerns, you might find the extra money well spent on the Bookeen Cybook Opus.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

Small, light and with some nice touches, but the price and menu system kill the appeal

A neat, compact e-book reader that competes well with its rivals and wins with its accelerometer-driven auto-rotating display.
