Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

At the beginning of the year, we completed our testing of the D40 and were very pleased. This new Nikon D40x continued to impress us, offering speedy performance, great image quality, and loads of user-friendly exposure options. The addition of ISO 100 and a 3fps continuous drive mode (3.5fps in our testing) are both great additions to this popular model.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

The Nikon D40x is neither an upgrade for the 6-megapixel D40 model, nor a replacement for the D80. Instead, it sits slightly uncomfortably between the two models, further expanding Nikon's range of budget and enthusiast SLRs.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Nikon D40x is essentially a 10 megapixel version of the slightly older 6 megapixel D40, and thankfully the increase in resolution hasn't negatively affected the overall image quality.

CNET Reviews‘s review Edit

The Nikon D40x makes a very nice first dSLR, though experienced SLR shooters looking for a Nikon should spend the extra cash for the D80.

LetsGoDigital‘s review Edit

The Nikon D40x is a very fine and smart DSLR camera that offers a lot of quality for a low price. The D40 camera was welcomed enthusiastically and quickly left its competition behind. The different camera reviews almost always showed a positive conclusion, also with our DIWA colleagues, who awarded the D40 with a DIWA Gold Award nearly unanimously.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

The Nikon D40x is certainly an interesting proposition. Nikon took the D40 which is a very successful beginners DSLR and equipped it with a sensor to compete against the Canon 400D / XTi. So far so good, but the D40x also inherits several weaker aspects of the D40 which stand out now it’s virtually the same price as the Canon.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

Nikon really shocked the market with the D40. Just four months later they did it again with the Nikon D40x. Its jump to 10 megapixels brought more than just resolution enhancements, it brought a new shutter, slightly greater speed, and, surprisingly, better low light performance than the already impressive D40 offered.

DP Review‘s review Edit

No one was more surprised that me when Nikon passed through the press releases for the D40X. Just under four months since the arrival of the six megapixel D40 and Nikon were about to reveal a ten megapixel version of the same (save for a base ISO 100 sensitivity and 3.0 fps shooting speed) camera.
