Samsung R780 Pro Reviews

expertreviews‘s review Edit

An attractive design, solidly-built case, large bright screen and great all-round performance justify every penny of the R780's price, and it's a deserving award winner.

Last time we saw the 17.3in Samsung R780 we absolutely loved it. From the outside it looks identical to its predecessor and we love its shiny red and black finish. Samsung's R780 is an excellent desktop replacement that's only missing an HD display.

If your desktop PC has just packed up, you could do a lot worse than replace it with this gorgeously sexy and powerfully performing 17.3-inch laptop with its superb keyboard, gamer-friendly graphics card and bright screen.

Looks good, works well and doesn't cost a packet - what's not to like? Well, apart from the disappointing sound and below par Blu-ray playback, not much. For the most part, though, this is a stylish machine which delivers good results.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

Despite its shortcomings, the R780 offers great value for money. While the Blu-ray playback is much better quality than DVD, it still falls behind the stiff competition.

A huge screen, plenty of features and a mouth-watering price make this an ideal value choice

Samsung has once again captured a powerful mixture of performance and value in the R780. Its Blu-ray drive might be wasted on the sub-Full HD display and rotten speakers, but for general computing tasks its shines and delivers decent gaming performance to boot.

Samsung combines good looks, power, and graphics muscle in a 17-inch system for less than $800.

Notebookcheck‘s review Edit

Those who consider a 15.6 incher too small, turn to the obviously larger 17 inchers. The R780 faces our tests with the same configuration as its smaller sister, R580. The Core i5-520M and GeForce GT330M were already able to prove themselves as strong companions. Can the big brother redeem the weaknesses of the 15 incher and repeat its advantages?
