Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Pro Reviews

Photography Review‘s review Edit

I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Sony Cybershot TX5 – enough that I’m considered buying it from Sony. Plus, time spent in the pocket of my sandy swim trunks left it not quite as pretty and polished as when I received it. It still works great, though. I can honestly say it’s my favorite waterproof point-and-shoot camera yet – and I’ve used a bunch.

Tougher than it looks with its neatly diminutive dimensions, Sony's TX5 is a camera you'll find yourself readily slipping into a pocket when heading out for the day. You may not take your best and most admired shots with it - you'll need a budget DSLR you could otherwise snag for a similar asking price for that - but with the camera about your person you're sure to take ones that you otherwise wouldn't have.

The Sony Cyber-shot TX5 is a remarkable camera, a sleek and attractive pocket compact that is just as tough as most of the military-grade rugged compacts. Build quality is superb, the touch-screen interface is versatile and easy to use, performance is outstanding and the picture quality is superb. My local camera shop tells me that this thing is flying off the shelves, and I'm not at all surprised.

Macworld‘s review Edit

Though the touchscreen is sometimes frustrating, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is a decent entry into the rugged-camera market that looks stylish enough for everyday use. It's certainly the most day-to-day-friendly rugged camera we've seen, and its features and its low-light shots are impressive.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is something of a digital Trojan horse. That's down to the fact that it may well be the best looking "rugged" camera we've seen to date - unless the more obvious physical brawn of the Pentax Optio W90 appeals - and this doesn't seem to have compromised either form or function. With its slender 17.7mm depth in fact it's easy to forget about its toughened qualities and treat it with as much care as you would a conventional compact; that said we did manage minor chips to the paintwork carrying it in a pocket with keys.

Although the touchscreen is sometimes frustrating, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is a decent entry into the rugged-camera market that looks stylish enough for everyday use. We would have appreciated at least one more hardware button for quickly cycling through shooting styles, because the last thing we want to do when we're scuba diving is to fool with confusing touchscreen menus. That said, it's certainly the most day-to-day-friendly rugged camera we've seen, and its features and its low-light shots are impressive.

The Imaging Resource‘s review Edit

With style and ruggedness, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 is a good quality point-and-shoot that I'd recommend. It's stylish and easy to carry around all day. It has a good wide-angle lens and the combo of the CMOS sensor and BIONZ processor lets the camera do some remarkable things such as 10 frames-per-second shooting, Backlight Correction HDR and Handheld Twilight, among others.
