HTC Desire Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

HTC’s Desire is a good, solid phone. I can very easily recommend it for anyone interested in a simple, sleek Android device. It’s a low to mid-range device, and while I cannot recommend Alltel Wireless as a service provider (though based on my research their main area of service is in fact in the southeast corner of the US) other users throughout the world can be satisfied with the Desire as a strong, decent device. But as I said in the beginning, a name means a lot, and the Desire doesn’t quite live up to that name. It runs Android 2.1, and likely won’t upgrade. The hardware is relatively weak when compared to competing devices. The Desire is solid…but I won’t be dreaming about one anytime soon.

No doubting the value here: HTC’s Desire costs comfortably less than its rivals SIM-free, and great contract deals abound. But it’s no economy special: sporting a 3.7in OLED screen and Android 2.1 (for now), it’s exceptionally powerful and flexible – if less sexy than the recognised class-leaders from Apple and Samsung.

A beautiful and powerful phone, however the Desire can't rival the iPhone's build quality, and HTC's Sense software has some annoying quirks

T he HTC Desire is, as we are used to by now with HTC, a powerful all-round Android Smartphone. With the HTC Sense look&feel, it is a true HTC, and one that uses the Android operating system. This equips the Phone with a good Internet browser, which even supports Flash, and of course, a connection with HSDPA or Wi-Fi is possible. The large, clear screen is nice for watching videos, and also for typing full e-mails with the large, virtual keyboard

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The HTC Desire has to be the best Android based handset we've seen so far and is particularly suitable for anyone wanting a large screen. Hardware and software are both sleek, and while the battery life could be better that's a general comment on all of today's smartphones.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The Android 2.1-powered HTC Desire is indeed desirable, with a robust feature set, a mature and attractive user interface, and plenty of multimedia goodness.

Sleek and fast, the HTC Desire is not only U.S. Cellular's best Android device but the carrier's best smartphone to date.

HardwareZone‘s review Edit

With the coming of faster processors, larger and better displays, the stage is set for Android devices to create a strong impression in the mobile market. HTC has made its first move with the Desire's array of offerings, from its Android 2.1 OS, to the innovative HTC Sense.

reghardware‘s review Edit

The HTC Desire is a terrific smart phone that improves on the already high standard of the Legend with its bigger screen and increased processing power. It has to sit above its near-twin the Google Nexus One too, and does so thanks to the Sense interface and trackpad. Unless you’re an Android purist, the Desire is the one to go for, as its roughly the same price.

Engadget‘s review Edit

The Desire is yet another fine piece of work from HTC – build quality is top notch as usual, and there's little to complain about the software except for the Flash performance. Some may argue that the Desire lacks freshness since the Nexus One's already shown it all, but we'd disagree...

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

In terms of usability, it feels as though the HTC Desire phone knows what you want at all times. There are a lot of similarities with the G1 and this is certainly down to the Android OS. Team this with HTC’s excellent build quality and you have a world-class smartphone. In conclusion, the HTC Desire is a wonderful phone – by far the best this reviewer has used. It combines the best features from the competition with true innovation. It provides the perfect combination of excellent connectivity, a rich feature list, and excellent build quality. There’s nothing about this phone that we don’t like.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

In short, this is a phenomenal phone - one of the best we've ever had on TechRadar. Usually when we like a phone on the first use, we end up horribly disappointed after a little time with it, but the HTC Desire kept on performing and achieving when we thought it wouldn't. A stunning phone, and one that will show the world that Android isn't just for the hackers and phone geeks any more.

GSMArena‘s review Edit

The Google Nexus One was given the grace of a market head start but it’s no longer standing lonely at the top. And even if it looks like a brotherly reunion, the HTC Desire is in fact a formidable rival. That’s between HTC and Google though. Users have hardly reasons to complain.

The HTC Desire is the long-awaited Android handset with specifications similar to those of the famous Nexus One and equipped with the wonderful Sense interface. We gather this must look like a dream come true to avid fans of high-end Android-based cell phones, but whether or not this is the case indeed... well, keep reading and you will found out…

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The HTC Desire will live up to its hype for many. As an alternative to the iPhone, you'll find it offers plenty of power, an excellent browsing experience and plenty of customisation opportunities. The Android Market is growing in its offering and already has a huge number of free applications. It doesn’t yet have the depth and breadth that the Apple App Store does, but with more manufacturers adopting Android devices, it is only set to grow.

www.trustedreviews.com‘s review Edit

The HTC Desire is a truly wondrous smartphone. It's 3.7in OLED screen looks amazing, its 1GHz processor makes it super fast, and its Android operating system is easy to use and powerful. It does lack the visual impact of some alternatives and doesn't necessarily break new ground, but if you're in the market for a smartphone right now this is the pick of the bunch.
