Alienware Aurora ALX Pro Reviews

DesktopReview‘s review Edit

The Alienware Aurora ALX is an impressive piece of machinery. It represents a new face for Alienware and Dell by turning away from the style that's been their signature look for the past several years in favor of a new, harder, more industrially-oriented design. The branding is spot on, accessing the internals has never been easier and upgrading your components doesn't even require a screwdriver. It has well thought out lighting setups, no bloatware and a front door panel which, if you're five (or me) is fun to open.

Extending the motoring analogy, when you take performance into account, the Aurora ALX is the guy who turns up at the motoring track day clad in professional-branded overalls and cap, only to be torn apart by the slouch in shorts and T-shirt. In short, the vents and the light show are more Max Power than real M-class improvements. If you’re happy to part with this much cash, you’ll get a powerful machine, but just be clear you’re paying over the odds for the drama and the lightshow, not real world performance where it counts.

PC Pro‘s review Edit

Relatively slow, loud and over-engineered, the Aurora is twice as expensive as it needs to be

TechSpot‘s review Edit

It is impossible for a computer gaming enthusiast not to absolutely love this system. You have absolute bragging rights in almost every department, and it looks as intimidating as a rabid pit bull. From opening the black boxes, to playing Doom 3, the Alienware Aurora ALX doesn’t just provide you with a fast gaming machine; it’s more of an experience.

ExtremeTech‘s review Edit

Buying an Alienware PC is a lot like buying a Porsche. You can certainly find other models that go just as fast and cost less, but they're not going to look as flashy. So the question isn't whether other systems on the market have the same high-end, high-speed components - of course they do - but whether you're willing to pay a premium for them. Alienware's Aurora ALX ($4,249 direct) may look great, but doesn't make that an easier choice.

HotHardware‘s review Edit

If we had to sum up the performance of Alienware's Aurora ALX gaming system in two words, they would be "extremely fast." This rig provided the highest scores we've seen in six of the benchmarks that partially comprise our test suite. Granted, we expected it to do well with its cutting edge hardware and configuration, but the extent to which it dominated our real world gaming tests was truly impressive. For a gaming system, combining Intel's most powerful Core i7 processor with two killer graphics cards is truly a combination that currently can't be beat.

Once again, Alienware has created a visually stunning, smartly designed PC, without sacrificing the performance needed for gaming (or just about anything else).

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

The Alienware Aurora ALX is a gaming PC with plenty of speed, flair and attitude. But it's the sort of system that polarises people.

Maximum PC‘s review Edit

One of the PC’s weaknesses is the tendency to be generic. That’s certainly not a weakness of Alienware’s new Aurora ALX. Using a new redesigned chassis, there’s no way your Aurora ALX will be confused with a bland black box.

CrunchGear‘s review Edit

The Aurora ALX is quite possibly the fastest computer I’ve ever used. It is in a word, amazing. The water cooling, thermally reactive venting system, and lighting combine to make a system that runs great, looks amazing, and has some innovative features that make you go “duh. why didn’t I think of that?” Of course performance has its price, and you will have to pay a premium price for this system.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit

The latest iteration of Alienware's ALX line, the Alienware Aurora ALX (Core i7), is as flashy as its predecessor and just as powerful, but it will cost you an arm and a leg.
