I wouldn't buy any desktop with Intel's new six-core Core i7 3930K CPU for general gaming performance, since a Core i7 2600K will do the job on the CPU side just as well. If you want a gaming system that also offers strong multithreaded processing performance, both the Falcon Northwest Mach V and this Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 can deliver expertly built PCs that fit the bill.

The Z90 comes with 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM and two drives: a 64GB SSD for the OS and apps, and a 1TB spinning hard drive for everything else. The SSD is certainly speedy, but 64GB is on the small side. You'll have to uninstall large games to make space for new purchases, unless you install apps and games to the 1TB data drive. There's also a BD-ROM/DVD±RW combo drive.

PC Magazine‘s review Edit Like Unlike

The Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 is a good "bang for the buck" as far as hardcore gaming PCs go, if you can claim that for a $5,500 system. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some competitors have, but it offers leading class performance for $900 less than our leader.

The Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 is the first production rig we’ve tested that boasts Intel’s new Core i7 microarchitecture—and it really cooks. Velocity cranked the 3.2GHz clock speed on Intel’s quad-core Hyper-Threaded Core i7-965 Extreme Edition to 3.6GHz with nary a hiccup, and cooled the dang thing with air. The machine also features 6GB of DDR3/1600 and dual 512MB Radeon HD 4870s.
