Nikon COOLPIX P100 Pro Reviews

gadgetreview‘s review Edit

The P100 is a decidedly good camera, with an exceptionally fast zoom lens and accurate color reproduction. It’s lightweight enough to carry for the long haul and agile enough to swing around to take whatever shot appears one-handed. And with 26x zoom, even long distance shots seem right around the corner, and that fast lens does a great job of capturing the moment, no matter how far.

PC World‘s review Edit

The powerful P100 does everything easily, thanks to its 26X zoom lens, versatile features, and intuitive controls. Exposure quality and color accuracy are superb, but its photos suffer from distortion and lack of sharpness.

Camera Labs‘s review Edit

In conclusion, the COOLPIX P100 is a bold move for Nikon, but a successful one. It provides advanced features that you'd need to pay considerably more for in models from other manufacturers, but you should be prepared to make some small compromises in return.

ITreviews‘s review Edit

The P100 is unlikely to appeal to serious photographers, as its picture quality isn't top of the class - but its range of shooting options, plus the addition of Full HD movies and a massive zoom will attract the compact crowd demanding more.

The controls could be more immediate, but the sharp lens and low-noise sensor are capable of great results

Steve's Digicams‘s review Edit

Nikon's Coolpix P100 is loaded with awesome features and plenty of useful exposure modes to choose from, not matter what experience level you may be. It offers excellent shooting performance, nice HD video quality, and a versatile 26x optical zoom lens. The only real down fall to this model is the above average amount of noise in photos, which effects fine details. Nikon Coolpix P100 Review

Macworld‘s review Edit

With its wide-angle-to-telephoto range, good macro performance, a full bank of shooting modes, and user-friendly operation, the Nikon Coolpix P100 is hard to beat in terms of versatility. The adjustable LCD screen makes it easier to get the hard angles. This camera satisfies the needs of a beginner looking for an all-purpose shooter, but the lack of raw shooting and its disappointing performance in the areas of distortion and sharpness make it a harder sell for advanced photographers.

DigitalCameraReview‘s review Edit

I was surprised to see Nikon back in the market with another superzoom announced exactly one year after the P90. At least until I realized that Sony has had a compact digital with a BSI sensor on the market since September 2009. Or that Fuji was announcing a new 30x superzoom with BSI the same day as Nikon's BSI-equipped P100. Right now, BSI is perhaps the next big deal in digital imaging technology.

reghardware‘s review Edit

If shots are planned and you have some moments to get the camera in the right setting, excellent results can happen, but the lack of response from the zoom and the metering in some situations may frustrate some. At the other end, the excellent wide angle is very welcome, and combined the P100 has a range perfect for every situation. The video though being HD is difficult to manipulate once off the SD card, but playback from the camera to the TV may suffice for many. The screen may well sell this one.

ephotozine‘s review Edit

The P100 offers an amazing amount of features and is a very enjoyable camera to use. You can do a lot with it and it should appeal to the gadget fan who is more into specification than pixel-peeping. That said, while the 26x zoom lens is impressive as a concept. But even if the vibration reduction features do their job, it’s still very difficult to frame a scene with any accuracy. Reducing the zoom magnification ratio may also help improve image quality, which is sadly lacking on this camera.

The Nikon P100 doesn’t quite deliver on the promises of the specs, but at least manages to produce some sharp images. The colour is the main letdown, as even when altered under manual controls it appears unrealistic.

PC Advisor‘s review Edit

With a lightweight but well-built frame, amazing zoom and the ability to capture broad vistas, the Nikon Coolpix P100’s capabilities are admirable. The video mode is far more flexible than the perfunctory nod to video capture on most cameras and we liked being able to directly select it in any mode. As for the camera’s value for money, it’s close to incredible.

PhotographyBLOG‘s review Edit

The Nikon Coolpix P100 is a feature-packed superzoom camera that is aimed at the enthusiast photographer who either does not want to buy into an SLR system or wants a lighter, more portable alternative to his or her main workhorse. The chief attraction is of course the 26-678mm equivalent zoom lens, which covers the focal range of at least 3-4 SLR lenses.

Pocket-lint‘s review Edit

The Nikon Coolpix P100 is a major step forward in terms of banishing the bane of the compact camera - image noise - though it does look fairly pricey. But that price gets you a superb lens (its remarkable focal range is ably illustrated by the two shots of the lighthouse at Dungeness, though oddly the cloudy WB setting struggled in the wide shot, though that proved a rare issue) which with VR tools, all combine to make the P100 and compact versatile camera capable of some excellent HD movies as well.

There's a lot to like about the Nikon Coolpix P100, but you'll need to keep your photo quality expectations in check to really enjoy it.
