One of the coolest TVs we've come across for some time but it has some frustrating flaws

The picture quality is exceptionally strong and the perfect proportions for film make it a dream buy. Of course, there’s still some 4:3 content, which leaves black bands hanging around, and even 16:9 programming isn’t perfectly configured here. But it all looks tremendous, much better than standard Freeview signals usually fare. This is spectacular innovation – even if it comes at a high price.

AVForums‘s review Edit

The 56PFL9954 is certainly no substitute for a high quality anamorphic projection setup, although it may cost the same as, or more than one. With that said, if installing a projector isn't an option in your viewing environment, and you absolutely can't stand letterboxed movies, then this display is currently your only choice.

Despite minor criticisms, it's fair to say that the Cinema 21:9 provides an awesome experience that is initially stunning. It's a huge improvement on widescreen TV if you watch a lot of Blu-ray or DVD movies in the CinemaScope (or similar) format, and far easier to set-up or live with than the messy projector/anamorphic lens set-up that’s needed to achieve the same result.

TechRadar UK‘s review Edit

There is just so much picture to look at, for a start, however far back you sit and you'll find yourself gawping at different sections of the picture as your brain tries to take in the sheer breadth of it. It's fabulously detailed, superbly realistic and the overall experience is quite unlike anything we've seen outside an actual cinema.

I have to say I was pretty sceptical about the Cinema 21:9. My distaste for resizing HD sources, my dislike of distracting video processing artefacts, the current lack of any 'true' 21:9 sources and my suspicion that standard def programmes would look awful when stretched to fill the 21:9 frame all left me expecting the TV to be nothing more than an expensive gimmick.
