HTC purchases S3 Graphics from VIA, investment group for $300 million

Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has made a move to purchase S3 Graphics from parent company VIA and an investment firm. S3 Graphics develops graphics visualization technologies that are used in PCs, video game consoles, and mobile devices.
S3 recently made the news in a patent lawsuit against Apple that ended with the court ruling in S3 Graphics' favor on two counts. The $300 million that HTC is spending on S3 Graphics buys it the entire company, with its experienced team of developers, along with a suite of patents and intellectual property relating to graphics development. »read more
