Vizio Drops from #1 to #3 US HDTV Brand

Though 2011 was a rough year for all HDTV makers, Vizio had a worse year than most. On one hand, there’s Samsung, LG and Sharp, who were rewarded by an increase in US market share of 17.9%, 35.2% and 60.09% respectively (Q4 2010/Q4 2011). Vizio, once number one in US market share (Q4 2010), found the bottom fall out with a whopping 44% drop in volume during the same 2011 period! Learn more past the break.

Vizio CinemaWide HDTVs Coming Soon

Vizio announces many new HDTVs last week at CES. Today, the company reiterated the fact that they will be releasing brand new CInemaWide HDTVs this year. These screens are unique because they feature a 21:9 aspect ratio. This allows movies to be played in their original format without the need for black bars above and below the screen. The company stated that the screens will also include the company’s Theater 3D technology and access to Vizio Internet Apps. The theater 3D technology uses polarized glasses, much like the technology used in cinemas.

Vizio Announces Upgrades to 2012 HDTV Lineup

Vizio is one of the leading supporters of internet connected HDTVs. Recently, Vizio announced that they will be upgrading their Smart TVs with two major upgrades. The first is by using the upgraded Google TV platform. The Google TV platform brings the internet to the TV without any restrictions or limited access. The other major upgrade is an upgraded VIA Plus. All of these new upgrades are designed to keep the user up to date with the latest technology and continue to provide access to thousands of movies, TV shows, and other content.

After lighting things up with new PCs and a 10-inch tablet, Vizio is returning to its roots by unveiling a series of new HDTVs during CES, along with a few old ones. Among its more conventional sets, the E3D series has been bringing value priced passive 3D since last year, but it will be joined by the M3D series in a 47- and 55-inch model, the latter of which includes a Bluetooth QWERTY remote. If that's not enough, users can step up to the R3D series which come in the same sizes and have better backlighting.

Smart TVs have been a recent addition to the consumer market. They provide internet access to users without the need for an external computer or having only limited access to websites. Today, a study conducted by the Consumer Decision Process stated that 10% of the broadband households that they reviewed stated that they plan to purchase a new Smart TV before the end of 2011.
