Sprint's Palm C40: the Pre 2 that never made it

Sprint's Palm C40: the Pre 2 that never made it

Posted on Jun 08, 2012 by MG1

Take a look through the trousers of time at what might have been; a Palm Pre 2 on Sprint. WebOSNation managed to grab the very rare prototype from a Palm employee and it fortunately worked on the Now Network without the need for any screwdrivers or warranty busting. Despite its second-hand status, the phone cheerfully handled webOS 2.2.4, albeit without a licensed webOS Doctor. Aside from the swap to a CDMA radio, the rest of phone hardware chimes with the Verizon version that did arrive. A handful of bloatware Sprint apps are on the device, including a ringtone store -- how quaint! Take a closer look at the source below.

HP updates webOS for TouchPad, Pre 2 and 3

HP updates webOS for TouchPad, Pre 2 and 3

Posted on Jan 14, 2012 by MG1

HP has released new OS updates for its TouchPad tablet and Pre 2 and Pre 3 smartphones. The TouchPad gets webOS v.3.0.5, which offers faster switching in Calendar views, IM indicators, and quicker scrolling in Email. It also gets support for HTTP Live Streaming, the ability to toggle auto-correct on and off, and a handy typing shortcut - two consecutive spaces will now be entered as one space and a period, something that we have seen on many other smartphone and tablet systems. The update is going out now over-the-air.
As for HP's smartphones, the Pre 2 (unlocked and AT&T/Verizon variants) and the unlocked Pre 3, the company has bumped up its OS to v2.2.4. The update brings improvements with...

Long forgotten Sprint Palm Pixi is priced at $29.99 no-contract for one day only

Posted on Dec 05, 2011 by MG1

Shopping around to find a smartphone for someone during the holidays is a job on its own. However, once you’ve managed to pick the right one finally, you’re then left to hassle over how you’ll be able to get the phone activated on the correct phone number without messing around with their plan or contract extension. And of course, it’s nearly impossible to get a smartphone activated for a friend versus a family member.
Well, if they happen to be on Sprint, you’ll be interested to know that the aging Palm Pixi is on sale for a single day. Yes, it’s one of those long forgotten webOS powered devices that went out like the dodo, but considering that it’s priced at $29.99 no-contract, that’s one ...

HP calls it quits with webOS

HP calls it quits with webOS

Posted on Aug 19, 2011 by MG15

After acquiring Palm for $1.2 billion in April 2010, HP has decided to call it quits and will no longer sell hardware powered by the webOS software that was the key behind its purchase of Palm. In a terse statement, the Palo Alto based firm said, "that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward."

When HP bought webOS, the idea was to have the software in printers, tablets, phones and computers all connecting with each other through the use of the operating system. Instead, HP was slow in bringing products to market and when something new was produced, ...

Verizon's Pre 2 finally gets the webOS 2.1 update

Verizon's Pre 2 finally gets the webOS 2.1 update

Posted on Jun 24, 2011 by Immortal

Wow, this took a while. Unlocked Palm Pre 2 devices got their webOS 2.1 update in early March. And it's taken a ridiculously long time for it to come to Verizon's CDMA Pre 2. But alas, maybe we should just be grateful that it came at all, considering the Palm/HP transition?
We're done ranting; it's time to rave. The webOS 2.1 update, which is being pushed out in a piecemeal fashion, brings a lot of fantastic features. One fun addition is Exhibition, which allows you to set specific display functions when your device is being charged. You can choose from a clock display, a slideshow of your photos, or your daily agenda.
Next is voice dialing, which is prompted by holding down the volume key, ...
