LTE and HSPA+ versions of BlackBerry PlayBook pass FCC testing
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerry
It's hard to say that the BlackBerry PlayBook has been a success by any standard, but it seems that RIM may think that has more to do with the fact that there has only been a WiFi version so far, rather than any problems with the lack of functionality in the original software. Still, the PlayBook 2.0 software fixed most of the issues we had with the software.

February 17th is again believed to bring forth the arrival of BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.0.7473
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerry
It’s not the first time we’ve heard a February 17th release date attached to the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 software, but yet again, the date is mentioned in the latest rumor that surrounds the highly anticipated software.
Well, we’ve heard various dates in February for the update’s release, though, the date of February 17th seems to keep on coming up more than anything else. Back at CES, we were fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at the upcoming software, but the PlayBook that we saw running the new software had versions 2.0.07116. However, it was reported that RIM was already testing newer versions back at the labs behind closed doors. Therefore, it’s very likely we’ll be seeing a ...

BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 to launch February 17th?
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerry
It seems like RIM has been promising to release the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 update forever. Now, a source described by Berry Review as being "solid" is telling the site that RIM is indeed committed to launching the firmware update and says that it will be launched on February 17th. Whether or not the improvements that the update will bring are enough to generate some much needed sales for the tablet are another kettle of fish entirely.
The improvements in BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 bring a new e-mail client to the device along with a calendar app and a contacts list that is integrated with LinkedIn. Additionally, some new enhancements have been made to the BlackBerry Bridge. When we show...

Clues in BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 suggest new BlackBerry tablet is coming with LTE support
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerry
According to N4BB, clues found in the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, due out in February, suggest that a new BlackBerry tablet is coming with support for LTE connectivity and a screen resolution of 1280 x 768. The hint that the next RIM produced tablet would have support for LTE came from images found on the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS Developer Beta. Icons were found showing a 4G and a 4G LTE logo. These are the top banner images that you would find alongside other notifications. RIM had been planning for a 4G version of the original PlayBook with Sprint originally saying that it would release a WiMax enabled version until they decided against offering such a device.

Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.0 leaks and has Exchange ActiveSync but no BES or BB Internet Server accounts
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerry
Earlier this week we mentioned that QNX using Blackberry smartphones would get access to Android apps. Another interesting tidbit about a Blackberry product has now surfaced. This time it has to do with the PlayBook tablet and a leaked version of OS 2.0 that turned up online. Version 2 of the PlayBook OS is a QNX-based OS and if the leaked screen shots are legit, some changes are in store.

RIM scraps 10-inch PlayBook to focus on QNX-powered superphone?
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
BlackBerry PlayBook enthusiasts will want to cuddle up with their favorite blanket and a carton of ice cream, as the 10-inch version of RIM's tablet may have been given the axe. N4BB reports that its development was recently cancelled to focus on an upcoming QNX-based "superphone," said to feature a 1.2GHz single-core processor (same as on the Bold Touch 9900) and a 4.3-inch HD-quality display. It's no secret that phones powered by this platform are on the roadmap, but scrapping a PlayBook project in its behalf could indicate the company's elevated desire to get it to market even sooner than originally planned. Anything less than two cores, however, will be an unpleasant surprise; company re...

RIM has announced a new version of the WebWorks SDK for BlackBerry Tablet OS is now available to developers. Version 2.1 adds new levels of hardware access on the PlayBook, as well as in-app payments.
With the new WebWorks SDK, developers can now access the PlayBook's camera, microphone, PIN number, and file system, all with familiar web languages like Javascript. Developers can also use AJAX to call the various APIs available on the PlayBook.
The WebWorks SDK also now includes support for RIM's BlackBerry In App Payment API, so developers can sell upgrades and other digital items right within their apps.

BlackBerry Tablet OS for PlayBook updated to 1.0.6, still no email
Like UnlikeFiled in: NotebooksRIM BlackBerryPlayBook
Last night Research In Motion pushed out an update for the BlackBerry Tablet OS that powers the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, bringing the version up to 1.0.6.2390. This update brought along Adobe Flash Player 10.3 and Adobe AIR 2.7, along with security and bug fixes for Adobe Flash Player. RIM is claiming that the PlayBook will support Flash better than ever, and that the Adobe AIR 2.7 support will open up the platform to new applications that are built for AIR 2.7. Unfortunately, that's it as far as new stuff goes. We're still waiting for that promised email client, RIM.
