Canon plays down 5D Mark III light leak issue, will provide free camera inspections
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCanonEOS 5D Mark III
Canon has completed its promised investigation into the light leak issue reportedly plaguing the new 5D Mark III. Some users have complained that keeping the top LCD panel's backlight on can affect the automatic exposure in low light situations, but the company has found that while the displayed exposure value may indeed be affected, the actual captured image itself will not. In short, your camera should still be exposing pictures correctly, but you might need to be confident of your settings — the screen may not be giving you trustworthy information.

Canon launches EOS 60Da DSLR for astrophotography
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCanonEOS 60Da
Canon has launched the EOS 60Da, a variant of its 60D DSLR tuned for astrophotography. The camera features a re-worked infra-red filter leaving the camera more sensitive to a specific emission frequency (656nm) of hydrogen, key to capturing images of features such as nebulae (gas clouds) in space. The 18MP camera continues where 2005's 8MP EOS 20Da left off. It will be available from a limited number of authorized dealers at a price of around $1499.00.

Canon EOS 60Da lets you shoot the night sky with its modified IR filter
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCanonEOS 60Da
Canon has announced the EOS 60Da DSLR, a modified version of its 60D exclusively designed for astrophotography. The camera uses an infrared filter that triples the transmission of light at the Hydrogen Alpha line wavelength, allowing for photographs of "red hydrogen emission" phenomena like the Horsehead and Rosette nebulae. Normal IR filters are tuned for the human eye, but block out wavelengths that many astral objects emit light along — while the 60Da's filter fixes this, Canon doesn't recommend its use for standard photography as your images will have a reddish color balance.

Canon mirrorless rumours continue
Like UnlikeFiled in: CamerasCanon
Rumours are continuing to circulate about the possibility of Canon announcing a mirrorless compact system camera in the next few months.
With many people seeing it as an inevitably rather than a possibilty, the next question on everybody's lips is "when?"
Canon is currently the only major player in the photography market not to have a compact system camera on the market.
Its biggest rival, Nikon, finally entered the market towards the end of 2011, and has been enjoying fairly large success with its V1 and J1 models which feature a small sensor.
Of course, it's not known what size sensor Canon will choose to use should it produce a mirrorless model, but a new patent discovered by a Japanese w...
