Samsung today revealed its own, branded mobile instant messaging service called ChatON. The new service, which targets RIM's BlackBerry Messenger and Apple's forthcoming iMessage, will let mobile device users send text, picture, video, and hand-written notes between Samsung devices, as well as to BlackBerries and the iPhone. The ChatON service will be preinstalled on Samsung's feature phones, its Android phones, as well as its Bada smartphones. Samsung will also make a version of the software available to Android devices made by competitors, as well as BlackBerries and the iPhone. The service will go live in October. Samsung didn't immediately provide details on how the service will work. »read more
